Twin engined Rover 25

A V10 isn't such a silly suggestion! A 5 is thought to fit lengthwise and we all know a V8 fits width wise. M5 engine anyone.....

The new V10 RS6 engine would be nice.

Going to have a cold shower :?

Ok, time for an update, spent all day Saturday over at mates house working on this, trimmed down the 600 front end to fit the 25 boot, and managed to get it in, stick the bumper on and close the boot. Great fun !, pictures pretty much say it all, lots of measuring and trimming and loads of angle grinder discs....

We made a strut brace first to ensure the remains of the 600 didn't go out of shape once the bulkhead was removed, plenty of strength in the lower subframes but nothing up top to stop the strut tops moving....

Then we cut the bulkhead out (cue several hours with two angle grinders going), resulting in this...

(spot your webmaster brandishing the 9" grinder)

Finally we shoved it into the 25, stuck the bumper on with some wire and tape and closed the boot, job done (well maybe not)

What was really pleasing was to see the track of the 600 allowed the wheels to fit almost perfectly into the 25 wheel arches, we were worried they would be outside the arches but in the end it was a near perfect fit.

At the moment it's not actually attached to the 25, just in the space, although it is tight up against the arches on each side so will be easy to weld in there. The front of the arches will need about 1 inch plates to fill the space ( could have been avoided with more accurate cutting), but the main event will be securely attaching the 600 legs into the 25 legs and ensuring the whole thing is structurally sound. He is fitting a full cage once everything has been in, so that will add a great deal to the strength, tied into both front and rear struts it'll almost be a spaceframe.

He must have good neighbours - 2 of you with grinders going

What's he going to do with the car when it's finished ?

The intention is to do some track days, and drag racing, that sort of thing, so it doesn't need to be road legal and doesn't need to comply with msa regs or anything like that. That's not to say that build quality isn't important, it certainly needs to be safe ! (ish)

If he was my neighbour I would be round there helping, but then I guess most of us would.

Funnily enough, I hope he doesn't mind me saying, but the estate he lives on isn't the quietest in the world (lets leave it there), and the guys next door were also working on a car whilst we were doing the work. We also had numerous passing "nutters" asking about the car and what we were doing. Then we had people coming round to borrow tools etc.... We also had a couple of the local kids asking about the car and we were showing them exactly what we were doing, why we were doing it, and how we were doing it, and they were really interested and offering to help. We were working from about 11am until about 4pm and tidied up afterwards, so not really any reason to complain, no worse than somebody cutting slabs for a blockwork drive for instance.

It was quite a change from the last place I lived where they would complain whenever you got a spanner out !, I'm ok now I've got a nice double garage to play in tucked round the back of the house out of the way, but I always stop working at a sensible hour and don't start too early on a morning. Do my best not to wind anybody up !

I think my neighbours would have formed a committee and had a delegate from the council, with police back up, round my house with a thumb screw or worse.

Some pictures of my dodgy welding.. It's now welded into final position, so I hope it's somewhere near!

.. I don't think it's too bad considering it's the first time I've welded, and I've not had any lessons !

:D

If you put the front engine in 1st and the rear engine in reverse , it will either fall apart or form a stretch limo.....

my welding seems to be getting better, I've been welding the under arches over the last couple of days.. Here's the nearside which I did yesterday, took me ages to work out the best way to do it!

I've welded some extra metal, with some bends to make it stronger etc.
