Dear Forum,

A friend has twin HIF6's and needs to balance them. However, the rearmost carb has its jet adjustment screw blanked off? Why would it be blanked off and how does he adjust this carb if he cannot access the adjuster, please?

Stumps me (not that that is particularly difficult)!!

Thank you.

Ray

HIF6'S were adjusted at the factory and plugged as part of tighter emission control laws. You should be able to prise it out to adjust the mixture. btw you don't need to adjust the mixture to balance the carbs. You should loosen the bolt connecting the carbs on the throttle shaft then adjust the idle speed screws independently on each carb to balance them, then tighten up the bolt on the throttle shaft again, before rechecking.

here is a photo

The procedure is in the Wm but basically goes like :-

The bottom shaft is the fast idle shaft the top one is the throttle.

The carbs operate together as is. If you loosen the clamp bolt on the right ( or the one near the back carb ) the throttles on each carb will operate independently.

The idle speed adjustment screw and locknut are far left. Adjust them independently to synchronise; adjust by same amount once balanced to set idle speed.

Tighten the clamp bolt to lock the throttles together again.
