V8 distributor

Hi guys and gals

Anyone got a spare V8 distributor lying around that they wanna give away. I want one to send of for reconditioning to those geezers Brian Northampton sent his to but as I use my car everyday I can't remove my only useable one. Failing that I'll keep an eye out for a spare for sale, although they don't tend to turn up too often.

cheers

Dave

Hi Dave,

When you do get a dizzy, if it has not got the same identification number as your current dizzy, make sure you tell H&H the identification number of the one on your car. That way they'll make the dizzy to your specification. Basically, the identification number identifies the vacuum advance type and the weights and springs etc that make up the characteristics of the dizzy.

Brian.

Hopefully the field will be clear for you Dave..no bids from me at any rate! :)

You might want to ask the seller if the vac is working OK?

Thanks Vaultsman

I have asked about the condition and when it was last on a running engine. It'll be going off for reconditioning if I win it anyway (unless it's in better condition than the one I have fitted) :|

I have myself a spare V8 dizzy, which cost me £21 on eBay. Could you let me know the details for H&H and what I might expect to pay to have this dizzy reconditioned?

Thanks to anyone who was mildly interested but didn't bid against me.

Cheers

Hi Dave,

Once you get your price from H&H...for comparison purposes, in April this year Martin Jay at >Distributor Doctor< quoted me £185 + VAT to recondition inc. new vac unit, cap and rotor.

Hi Dave,

I paid £84 for my 4 cyl 25D4 distributor in August 2007. I got it re-bushed, new weights, springs, vacuum unit, cap and rotor. Just like new.

Their website is http://www.h-h-ignitionsolutions.co.uk/
And their phone numbers are 01384 261500 or 07989744351 (from the email correspondance I had with them). Ring them up and speak to Lee Hull.
Tell them what you've got and if the two numbers are different on your spare vs car distributor, tell him you need it built to the right spec.
Then just box it up with a letter reiterating your phone conversation and post it (insured and signed for!). When they've done it, they'll ring you up and ask you to pay by CCard.

One tip, don't send them the clamping plate. I left mine attached and when the dizzy came back, the plate didn't come back with it. To be fair to them, they soon sent me one, just had to wait a bit longer!

Cheers,
Bri.

Can I just clarify the ident numbers on the dizzy issue. My 'new' dizzy has the numbers 41393 A 35D8 12 73, and a string of 8 numbers underneath that. The one on my car has 41393 A 35D8 21 72 and I can't quite get to the string of numbers underneath. Do I need the numbers underneath too or will the top ones suffice? I know the 'new' one is different as it has a different plate for the points etc. I think the one fitted is a 35D8-LU-183 and the 'new' one is 35D8-LU-181.

ps I'm slightly chuffed as the 'new' one seems in pretty good shape. Still, straight to H&H with it.

cheers

Dave

Hi Dave,

It is my understanding that the "41393A" is the code that determines how the dizzy is built, so you should have the exact same dizzy there!
The 35D8 is the Lucas model (8 for 8 cyls) and the 21 72 and 12 73 are the Lucas stamps as to when they were made. 21st week of 1972 and 12th week of 1973.

I don't know about the string of 8 numbers ....... I don't have them on the 25D4 dizzy that I've got.

Looks like you're good to go! Take a photo of it before you send it, you wont recognise it when it comes back.

cheers,
Bri.
