venting switch..

Hey all! Just wondering.. Im currently rebuilding the dash in my P6. Although I'm using some of the dash from a 76 P6b which has different switch mounts and such. (My car is RHD) the vent lever to the right (single leaver by its self labled "AIR 1,2,3") which also holds the choke and reserve petrol switches.

The bracket for this has 3 wires coming off it. 2 together which are solid brown and brown / yellow. And another to the base of the bracket (im assuming earth?) which is just a silver cable type with a bullet connector on the end. What are these for? I cant find the ends for them in my 73.. but I want them hooked up.. So where should I lead them too?

Thanks in advance. Andrew O'Callaghan.

Something sounds rather odd about what you describe. Are both cars RHD? Does one have air con?

The area around the blower fan lever was standard across all cars, including S1's. The only variation occours if the car has Air Con when the choke and petrol reserve are relocated to a rather cheap and nasty bit of pressed tin, clad in leathercloth, mounted low to the side of the centre console in a position you'd think ideal to bark the drivers shins against. If this is what your describing then you have a very unusual car indeed and this set of switches will be the least of your problems in re-commissioning an A/C set up.

Your signature panel says the spares car is '76 - that's very late - it wouldn't be a VIP by any chance?

If you don't want the A/C it has a significant market value if carefully stripped out and substituted by a standard set up.

Best investment you can make at the moment is a copy of both the workshop manual and the spares manual. These are widely available including through the club and both cover A/C cars. The point of buying the spares manual is that it has excellent exploded diagrams of the whole car.

Hope that helps a bit.

Hi Chris, Thanks very much for your reply! Yes the 76' had airconditioning in which im ripping out and putting into my 73. Received my workshop manual and im yet to find out what the wires are infact for.
The air conditioner it an after market system by the looks of it. But reguardless ill fit it for the convenience of it.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by this!!

Also yes, both cars are RHD

Thanks mate! Andy

A VIP is a small number special batch of cars towards the end of production - there was one for each dealership. They were a special colour, either a mucky brown (Ian will tell us the correct names!) or a rather nice pinky silver (the only metallic ever used on a production P6). But most hideously they followed the fashion of the day with brown Velour uphoulstery comlpete with brown velour (and saggy) headlining! If you have a nice one they are quite collectable because of rarity value, but nice ones are thin on the ground - the factory seem to have trawled the far reaches of the stock yard for base units that had been stood outside for a long time and they all rusted at least ten times faster than a normal P6 (and that's very fast!!).

The fact that your parts car has an aftermarket A/C confirms to me that in fact it is a factory prototype for the very last batch of CKD cars shipped to New Zealand. It's therefore super rare and super interesting! At least swapping the A/C into your '73 car shouldn't be too much of a challenge - if it had been NADA style A/C it could have been a nightmare!

Please, please, take lots of digital photos of all its nooks and crannies and overall appearance and share them with me!

Chris
