Very tight PAS.

Greetings All,

As you may have seen in the Projects page the Devil himself  possessed me and made me buy another P6B!!!
I feel an exorcism may be in order

One of the issues found so far is the PAS. It is super heavy, virtually non-existant. Sure I may end up with forearms like Popeye and two axe handles across the shoulders but is it worth it??

What may cause this phenomenon (doo doo do do doo!!)?? Steering box, steering pump, ball joints??

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

RT.

I'd make sure it had fluid in it, make sure the belt was fitted and tight, then run the engine and crack the bleeder to see if you're getting pressure. If not then I'd say it's the pump, possibly the relief valve stuck. If you have pressure then disconnect the ball joints from the steering box drop arm to see if it's still as heavy with those disconnected, if so it's the box, if not it's in the linkage somewhere, so gradually dismantle that until you find the culprit.

Check the tyre pressures first - you never know

Always worth trying the simple things first, but from the description I'd think the tyres would have to be off the rims for it to be that heavy.

Another easy test is to jack the car up and see if it's as heavy with the weight off.

mine is the exact same...hopefully just needs bled, It has been sat for a few years,, no sign of life from it.
