Vibration when setting off

On my v8 manual I have noticed a vibration through the car when I reversing up my driveway onto the road. I get a slight vibration setting off forwards too but it's much worse in reverse. Thinking it's the diff any ideas? if I twist the prop shaft how much movement should there be wondered if there was too much play in the diff

Check: Clutch judder, gearbox rear mounting, diff pinion mounting, diff bearer plate mountings, prop and driveshaft uj's, rear toplink rubbers, exhaust alignment.

As for backlash I just twist the prop and know whether it's too much or not......

At a guess I'd say about 20 degrees of rotation as a maximum.

I'm hoping to get a look at this problem possibly this weekend. My suspicions still lie with the diff as the amount of play seems too much but I'm thinking I might remove the half shafts to check the uj's how will I know if they are worn. Clearly if the are falling apart that will be a clue but should they move freely and be floppy or shoukd the be tight with some resistance
