Can you put SD1 Rover Vitesse alloys onto a 3500s?,Have heard a few stories about people doing so but never sene a 3500s or any other p6 with them on!,If you can what mods do you have to do & what tyres to run on. :(

Cant sy much personally, but I have sen them fitted tp p6's. a tight fit mind, so don't go to big on the rubber.

Come on everybody, somebody out there has these. Is everyone on their Hols ?

Cheers Ron,I think i'll go ahead with this as long as i can get a decent set of Alloys & and run them on 195/60/15.
I'll let you know how i get on.
Cheers Eric

Apparently the stud pattern is ok but the hole in the centre requires enlarging or the grease cap for the hub replaces with the SD1 item.

Have a look back in the topic as this was discussed a few months ago. If you put alloys in the search it will find the threads you need.

The Vitesse alloys are nice, I quite fancied a set for awhile but am going to be like the majority and stay original. I did put on a set of Vaden plas alloys and it didn't look to great. I think because the Vistesse ones look like wire wheels from a distance they work well.

Have seem a few Pimento red ones with them at they were awesome. One was in Practical classic from Australia; it also had chromed sill covers and tinted windows.

Some info ( a tale) that you may find usefull from my own saga of the alloys.

I have some alloys running 195/70 x14 tyres. These were a close fit arround the door area at the rear, but OK when I tested the car with only 1 person and 1/2 a tank of petrol.
I have just tried going to a rally, 4 adults, a picknick and a full tank. The 1st roundabout and the tyres were rubbing (but not on bumps strangly). They catch arround the rear door area.
The back of the car has been a bit low because of weak springs, but I was amazed to see how all my passengers etc had made the car sink by about 5 cm ! and my tight fitting tyres were catching again.
I am now investing in some new rear springs, here's hoping a higher rear end and less sinking under load will give enough clearance. I'll also get the big hammer out.
If you look back in the threads this is turning into a Greek saga, I had the idea of lowering the front to match the rear hight, but obviously this now seems the wrong way to go.

Due to the drive shafts, and suspension design there is a slight amount of sideways movement in corners. This can be improved with new bushes, don't know how old yours are.

Get the big hammer out !, I've noticed its usually just that front section on the D post that causes problems, I'm cutting it all out on the convertible, then I just need to find some cheap 19" alloys ....... Then I'll be able to rattle all the fillings out of my teeth....

D post, thats the name I was looking for ! New springs (and shocks, I plumped for std one's in the end, money!) go on Wednesday. Then it will be D for dent.

19" alloys, how about those new trendy ones with the free spinning "rotor's". These will chop the fingers off anybody who tries to put fingermarks on all you polishing.

Keep rolling

Ron

Bushes !

Looked under the car today, Ron has a Panhard rod, impressed. Looks like this will be the most likly contender for bushes then, the bolts look awfully rusty though......sheared stud syndrome coming on again !

Thanks for the advice Richard

Don't know if anyone will read this but..

Rons got new rear springs from Waddhams (dual rate) and new standard dampers. The rear sits with the bottom of the wheel arch abot 1/2 way up the side wall, instead of level with the wheel trims. My Wolfies don't catch anymore (without resorting to the hammer) and the car hardly rolls round corners (well relativly). Massive difference, result !! Here's hoping the springs don't settle tooo much. :p

In answer to the original question, I was speaking to the geezer who sold me my BW35 who is a bit of an authority on the P6.

He said that you can use the Vitesse wheels but you also need the studs and nuts.

He also had sets of rostyles and minilites for sale and even offered me a set of pukka wires to fit!

Ron - be careful - I had a set of h/d sprigns from Wadhams :(
which were the wrong fit and the height caused the rear end to lose grip. In the end I had to resort to std springs and had to dress the D post for my Wolfrace alloys to fit.

NB if you have got the old espirit ones you can get the centre caps from the scimitar dealers - they are the same size.

Interested in the contact for other wheels - can you post details.

Further to earlier posts re handling kits i did get in contact with Nigel but he no longer has the jigs to re-make his mods.
He describer it as similar to a McPherson set up and I know that some of these were retailed in early 80's.

Maybe there are some cars out there with them fitted???????
