wanted - BW35 gearbox

hi giys anyone got a good bw35 auto box for my money pit 3.5 p6 this car owes me so much and now run out of cash thanks i do have some cash to pay for box????????

Moved into the Wanted forum, from Free to a good home.

Also, added BW35 gearbox to the title.

A word of warning; I seem to remember someone saying that the auto boxes don't like standing, so you should be wary and examine what you can before putting it in.

dont understand some pepole i want a good box but ive not got a fortune to pay loads for it but if you prefor ill scrap the dame thing just thought id try see if any nice pepole out there that may help a old man out but no so long

Hi, what rockdemon is trying to tell you is that BW35s when they are stood for a while, is that the
seals in the box if they are not kept oiled dry out and leak internally causing problems. So if you
get another box from some ones shelf you could be in exactly the same situation. To be honest
any auto box that has been stood for a while should be treated as a rebuild candidate.

i apolojise sorry but ive run out of money i had saved and due to the problams with my hands hence it takes me some time to do things ie i could tinker with something for a hour or two and suffer for the nexr 2-3 days and i dont have alot of cash to spend????? so was just hoping that someone may of had a good one for a bit of cash not loads?? thanks and soz agane it just seams to be one thing arfter another with this rover ive had a fue but nothing this bad o well of to bed lol and ill start to flat down my capri and hope to get to paint it this year night

Hi Chris,
I've actually got a V8 BW35 I had conmpletely rebuilt years ago but the car died of rust before I got around to putting it in. It has been sitting for along while but has never had oil in it so I don't think the new seals will be an issue at all. I am in Australia though so shipping might be a killer. I'm looking for about Aus$350 which is roughly 175 GBP. I just picked up a 4 HP22 yesterday for my project car so don't need three spare BW35s...anymore.

thanks mate but it would cost a fortune to get it hear?????????// and at the mo not got much cash spear but thank you toying with wether to put a 2.9efi engine and box in it as there is plenty of parts out there lol thank

It is frustrating yes... Just wanted to make sure you're in the know. You can find cheapish boxes, but you'd need to be ready to take them apart at least a little to replace the seals, or make sure you know the history.

Changing engine and box might work if you have the time, skills and knowledge. A few years back i was in a similar position to you and ended up paying someone to recondition the box on my car. Unfortunately they weren't really up to the job. Whatever you do just take your time with the decision and do your homework.

If you want the box reconditioning you're talking around £600-800 including removing the box from the car which as you allude to is a lot of money. Any p6 with an MOT is now worth more than this though so financially it does make sense to do it.

Hope that's some help. There's another thread on here from the last couple of days where pilkie is wanting the same thing as yourself. I obviously didnt mention to him the standing boxes thing as I'm pretty sure he'd already be aware of that.

Good luck,

Rich.

So none of you ugly lot in the UK is willing to sell this poor old man a used BW35, despite you are sitting on piles of them?

You disgust me.

Chris, if you want, you can have my BW65 for free. It comes with the converter and kickdown cable. Unfortunately something is broken and I haven't opened it to have a look yet.
Could be something minor, i.e. nothing a rebuild kit wouldn't fix, I know not.
I'm sorry that I'm unable to offer you something better, like others out there certainly could, if they wouldn't sit on everything they hoarded like big fat dumb clucking hens.

thanks you are miles away 3.1/2 hours drive will look into what other bits i may need thank you for your kind offer thow there is some nice peps on hear thanks again

I have 7. I use them as chairs with a seat top on the prop shaft end.... Really people don't keep them because if you leave them standing you have to overhaul them.

Hi, very diplomatic Richard. That is a lot more restrained than the post I resisted
putting up last night. :x

Wow. Someone has his head stuck up somewhere unmentionable..

I have one that's been in the garage since 2007. Needs one hell of an overhaul.. I'll get around to it someday though.

Unlikely I would have thought unless somebody has just had one reconditioned only to find that they don't need it after all (even more unlikely). As mentioned, they don't like sitting around & if they are sitting around, chances are they are sitting around because they have problems to start with. To suggest otherwise is I think, disingenuous in the extreme.

I had one sitting around for years, out of my father's old P5B. Eventually I couldn't take Harvey's pester-power any longer & gave it to him to dismantle, purely out of interest. It was toast, even though it had been working when the car was broken up.

As mentioned, I don't think there are many, if any of us hoarding gearboxes in any condition. Perhaps one box which may get used as a replacement for our own car one day & which we would like to keep for ourselves to save finding one in that eventuality. I don't have a spare now however & the one I did have is now just a casing in Anorakland ( )which needs a total rebuild.

I hope you find one that is a possible 'bolt-in-&-go', but even if you do & it does, there's nothing to say it won't become a 'bolted-in-&-stopped', very quickly.

:D :D :D yipee my daughter payed for one off a old boy said it came out of his car 4 weeks ago? i have a problam thow? ive got my box out boy what a nightmere would i be right in saying thar the taukeconverter is balanced to te flywheel? as was givern the parts but no marks so was going to use my one? and whats the best way to put box back in or anyone want to help lol got me alloy wheel nuts for my sd1 alloys just like to say thanks to all for info and all offers of help thanks all

Hi Chris.
Having just fitted a BW35 to my own P6 this weekend as my 2nd gear was nearly nonexistent, its still fresh in my mind.
You should be able to lift up the whole box, with bellhousing and torque attached, making sure its properly located on the splines and lugs,up into the tunnel then with a bit of jiggling, and possible swearing get it to fit to the engine.
Bolting the torque to the flywheel are 4 positions,so once its in and mobile, see how it feels, then if you think there is a vibration, release the 4 bolts and move it round 1 at a time till you find the best point.

well got gearbox got old one out changed flexy plate arfter bit of hag ie lining it up. got the gearbox out put the converter in got the box up had a wiggal and bang? ouch my wrist just whent so box on floor strgaled to put box on trolly and wheeled it to the shed wrist swalon but can move it will maybe try again weekend? maybe?????
