As I am planning after few years (need to finish my studies) go back to my country Latvia, I would like to go back with rover p6- unfortunately in Latvia we cant use RHD cars, so I am planning to find some cheap running LHD car- I found there is some possibility to get car from USA and import back to UK, I thing it would be cheaper as bay here from dealers to get car directly from USA... Maybe You have some suggestions? Thanks and Happy New Year :)

Regards, Mr Renars Graudins (Ray)

Give Ian Wilson a ring at RoverClassics on 01777 816 600. Ian has plenty of experience of importing P6s from the USA.

You might be lucky........

Cheers,
Bri.

all-right I will try to do tomorrow- just my language skills not good enough to understand some of English dialects by phone :) but it would be great opportunity to gain my language skills :D

EDIT- looks he is the same man from: http://www.rover-classics.co.uk/ so I already have some contacts, thanks anyway :)

I think you would be better buying a car from Europe. But P6's seem to fetch stronger money there than in the UK.

It is actually pretty easy to convert an existing car from RHD to LHD. Ian should be able to help with all the required parts, as he has converted plenty the other way -ie from LHD to RHD.

perhaps convert car from RHD to LHD is best way how to get good LHD. well I still have lot of time to find out best and cheapest way, so in this topic I will sort all information what I will get.

If you've already been looking around, you probably know Mobile.de? Spotted a 2.2TC there today - this one with leather and a bakelite sports steering wheel.

I rarely see any for sale in Norway but they do crop up and usually in preserved original condition. Sweden is not a bad place to look as prices are low enough. Visit http://www.blocket.se and find this one, with rostyles (and clutch disengage issue).

Yeah, I know mobile.de, also I am monitoring ebay.de but I never use blocket.se, thanks.. maybe you know average delivery costs from Sweden /Norway to UK.

I think delivery/shipping from Scandinavia to the UK would be rather ruinous. I was thinking Sweden in terms of the ferry line to Riga. Otherwise, I'd fly and drive to the UK myself. Try contacting www.roverclub.se, maybe they can help you on.

Hi, Royal_Numis my suggestion for what it is worth is to not buy another (LHD)
car. But to carry on with your own car and to buy a set of parts to convert from
Ian Wilson, either in one go or a piece at a time. Then shortly before you return
to Latvia convert your car to LHD and either sell RHD parts on here, Ebay or back
to Ian Wilson. This way you are taking a car that you know, and you are not trying
to restore too many cars. It should also be more cost effective.

Hi Colin,
Yeah, probably its the best way how I can reduce costs. what are the main differences between 2000TC and 2200TC, because right now I have 2000TC, but all time i have feeling, that 2200TC would be better choice for long term daily use.

Renars

I think we can find you a 2200TC engine to drop into your 2000TC! It is a larger bore, which allows bigger valves. Also it has smaller carbs than the 2000TC which massively improves driveability. Other than that the only other difference is that the 2200's have the V8 style subframe for the front of the diff - not important. Oh and most 2200's have been through the new SD1 paint shop at Solihull, so dissolve much faster into rust than 2000's!

So keep the 2000TC, drop a 2200TC engine into it and convert to LHD. Simples!

Chris

thanks, Chris, for advice, I will keep it into my mind, Thanks :)
Soon I will sort information to start step by step create "to do list" with target- get my own LHD 2200TC rover into 2000 shell. right-now its sounds little bit complicated.
Renars

You can bore out your 2000 TC block to 2200 bore size, and fit 2200 pistons, and use the same heads, or get hold of some 2200 heads. This has been discussed on here before.

Have a look at www.roveramerica.com This website is run by Dirk Burrowes. He has many Rovers, and could possibly supply a car to ship over, or help out with parts to do a conversion to left hand drive. His email address is on this website.

If you have put a lot of hard work into your car, I would recommend getting the conversion done. If you buy another car, then you may have to spend time getting out all of the little niggles that an old car has, especially if it has sat for a period of time.

James.
