Webmaster - More news

Hmm. Sadly, my own musical aspirations are unmatched by talent, much to the disappointment of my multi-talented mother (see http://www.organum.org.uk. However, a friend of mine is making some interesting music, first album due out early next year - sort of new up-to-date prog rock, proper riffs but with interesting melodies and harmonisations etc, in the Pink Floyd mould. He's got a pretty nice load of kit - Mapex M Birch drums with Evans heads (IIRC), Sabian HHX cymbals, a nice Washburn bass given to him by the bass player of a Britpop band called the Bluetones, an old Les Paul copy, a cheap Strat and now a brand-new Gibson SG... and his own home studio, fully sound-insulated. I envy him greatly...

Anyway, once again we seem to be drifting off-topic!

What about moving the central heating boiler into the garage ? Tell the good lady it would make more room ,but really it's to keep the cars warm and dry.
PS I wish Melissa Messenger would get her roots retouched - and that goes for all the other "aircraft blondes" out there

For once, Dave, I agree with every word you say. Hair dye is one of my pet hates - especially when you see a blonde with obviously dark roots. A girl friend of mine also has lovely brown hair which she hides beneath an ugly purple dye... yuck. PS where did you get the term "aircraft blondes" from? It's not one I've heard before.

"aircraft blondes" - i almost just googled that on my work computer before it dawned on me  . I am assuming it's much the same as, "collar & cuffs" not matching the hat :D :?: This is too poilite a forum to go into anymore detail.

BTW, putting the CH boiler in the garage is a good idea. It's one of the the things to do I have on my own masterplan (probably somewhere in between becoming US President and providing a solution for world peace :) ). If you have the boiler in the garage, really easy to stick a radiator in there and make it much nicer place to keep old cars and work in?

I'm really glad IATR agrees with me about fake blondes with black roots
I'll just say "black box " to explain my previous comment
Somewhere I read that Princess Di wasn't a natural blonde but she had the hairdressers in every day

On the subject of the boiler, putting it in the garage isn't always a good idea, paint fumes and naked flames don't mix ! I've heard at least one story of a garage basically exploding when the boiler kicked in.

Hmmm........ hadn't really thought of that. You do get the odd occurrence of houses exploding due to boilers and gas leaks but I guess garages are a higher risk if you are painting, welding and playing about with petrol and other flammable stuff. I suppose the safest place for a boiler is in a seperate little boiler house away from house or garage - not very practical for most of us in an subarban setting though. Mind you, if paint or any other fumes get to a level where a naked flame (or spark?) in your garage is going to cause ignition, should you really be working in there?

I've been slowly getting all the gear together, my plan is to have the boiler fitted in the utility room next to the garage, so should be safe enough there. I think they're all "room sealed" these days anyway so shouldn't really be any naked flame as such.

I've already got full air-fed mask etc, and am planning fitting a decent extraction system, since becoming ill I've gone all "health & safety" which I never was before. I don't plan on doing loads of spraying, but when I do I want to be sure it's safe. Plus the youngest is doing quite a bit of airbrush/spraycan art at the moment, so I want to be sure he's safe too.

Well, sort of, he saw a guy doing the spray painting on holiday last year and decided to have a go, I've really pleased with the stuff he's producing, keep trying to get him to do flames but he's not too keen.

All done with spray cans and various techniques.

Some nice artwork there Rich by your lad. I haven't seen much air brush work for some time, I remember when I was growing up in the seventies, hotrods and jacked up cars where the order of the day and a couple of guys Ray and Roy used to do a lot of customising, some of the artwork on those cars was awesome especialy the warrior women and the like.
On another note good to hear things are on the up for you and long may it continue. :D

I've been reminded that I haven't updated you all on my condition for some time, sooooo....

I've been home since early November following the transplant and things have been going well. I currently effectively have the immune system of a small child, so very susceptible to bugs etc (not VW's  ).
I had a bit of a set back early January, probably my own fault as I'd been outside doing a little work on the 800 to prep it for MOT, came down with what I thought was a cold, but with a chesty cough.
Currently visiting hospital every week, so they took a throat swab to test.
I also had my "100 days" (after transplant) bone marrow test, to determine whether the cancer was still in remission and to what extent the transplant was working.
Had to wait a week for the results, but fantastic news the bone marrow test came back totally clear, and the "chimerism" (how much of the marrow is mine and how much is the transplant) came back at 100% transplant, so that has been successful.
Unfortunately at the same time they had the results of the throat swab, and I had RSV virus, basically a respiratory virus which everybody gets from time to time, and normally wouldn't be treated for, (if you get a cold and cough that seem to drag on for weeks, it's probably this), but due to my reduced immune system they admitted me back to the ward for anti viral drugs and also antibody infusion. This meant a week locked in a room again, the antiviral is given by nebuliser 3 times a day 2 hours at a time for 7 days, plus nobody is allowed in the room for an hour after (dangerous to other people :( ) So it wasn't a fun week.

Anyway, that was a couple of weeks ago, and testing showed that the virus was dissipating, so they sent me home. I'm feeling much better now, just a bit of a cough and my ears are gummed up, but I don't feel ill at all, even managed to attend our local club meeting last week.

It's taking me longer than I expected to recover physically, the weather doesn't help, don't feel like getting outside and pottering around when it's -5 and snowing :D But I'm getting there. Was hoping to start going back to work a bit by the end of January, but the virus has set that back, maybe by the end of Feb I'll start doing some part time.

Anybody who's had cancer will know that it's never truly over, they never tell you you're cured, just in remission. So it's just a case of getting on with life and hope the tests keep coming back clear.

I've just about finalised the plans for my extension / garage, so that's the next big thing.

Many thanks to everybody for the support, this forum has been one of my main supports through all my time in hospital, and I hope to get to some shows this year and meet up with some members. :D

Nice to see you back up and about again, if only a bit.

You certainly looked a lot fitter when I saw you last week. Keep up the good work and if you need to potter about inside, I have a heater that needs rebuilding in my nice warm garage (It's not really warm in there, but its better than standing in the snow doing it :D )

Regards

Richard

Nice to hear you're on the way up again ! Don't overdo things and your body will win once again.

Happy to hear things moving in the right direction for you Richard :) keep up the high spirits it all helps.

Good to hear that things are still going well Richard. Spring is nearly here so hopefully you will get the opportunity to do some more of that pottering about :) . Take care.

Hi Boss , i know you've not posted about your condition lately , but i've been wondering how you are . Shame about the set back with the throat infection , but you'll soon beat that off . Stay strong :D

We were also wondering how things were going, but didnt want to seem to be nosy, Great news that its going so well and the infection is just to remind you to take it easy still. Wouldnt want you to get bored so Im sure there are a few forum members could come up with some smallish jobs they need doing you could get stuck into.Look forward to bumping into you soon, not literally I hope :)
