What is the prettiest wheels on a 3500 s

Did you see the Arden Green 2200 that won best 2200 at Duxford? That has some nice polished Wolfrace Slots on that set the car off a treat.

That particular photo of Paprika has stuck in my mind, I think the centres and the car's own colour really top the wheels off. And the low-profile tyres.

I'm waiting for SD1 studs to fit my own Vitesse wheels. It's taken a while to get them, but I finally found an SD1 fan who says he's got some... Hope I don't have to do much work to clear the tyres.

The first P6 I ran on SD1 alloys had the SD1 wheel nuts and studs, because of the slight difference in size. (metric and imperial)

But, my current P6 has standard P6 studs and 7/16 wheel nuts, which the old owner bought specially to fit the Minilites.

I will have a look on Monday (all the bills are at work) to see where he got them, if it's any help.

My first attempt, was when my ex put the new wheels on as a surprise, getting a local garage to change them over. We got precisely three miles when I heard a loud bang from the front and stopped to find that one of the wheel nuts had come off and headed skyward hiting the inside of the front wing.

There were only 12 nuts left on the car, out of twenty.

The imperial nuts on my car fit the Vitesse wheels but need larger washers.

Might be worth looking into before changing the studs.

Hi from Paris,
I've always liked the series 1 SD1 alloys, that you see here on 'Enzo' my '72 Gendarme blue 3500

I have a set of genuine 14" P6 Rostyle wheels that I use for special outings, such as the Rover Owner's Display day. They really do look very nice.. :D

I have seen various types of SD1 alloys fitted, some locally made aluminium alloy wheels from the 1970s, some of which look much better than others, and one freshly painted P6B last year sporting dual exhausts and 17" wheels...Jeep Grand Cherokee I would think.

My brother told me he saw a P6B only recently about 2 hours from my place fitted with the Rover 825 / 827 alloys.

Ron.

All 800's are 4 stud (although some of the wheels are styled to look like 5 stud), so highly unlikely to have been 825/827 wheels.

I'm now trying to think of other wheels that would look like any of the various 800 wheels ! :D

Hmmm, well Richard now you have me thinking too,...if not 800 series then what could they have been??

Possible hub change to accomodate....speaking of which...a P6 at last year's Rover display day featured wheel mounting flanges with one central spigot, wire wheels and spinners to keep them on.

Ron.

Wires were a factory option on the 2000, but had a hexagon nut in the centre rather than eared spinners - health and safety had already started!

Chris

Without a doubt & I dont believe anyone has a better argument standard steel wheels fitted with Savage S500 wheeltrims  now who can remember those beauties??

I'll get my coat

Hello Chris,

Yes I remember the large nuts now that retained the wire wheels, the owner had the very large spanner for tightening them in the boot. The Rover was a 2000TC body fitted with the 2.2 litre engine. It was the concourse winning car....better than new.

How can it be a concours winning car then?

Depends on how they judge concours, I always judge as "closest to factory", however you've got to have a pretty good idea of how "factory" looks. Of course some don't judge like that....

You could still win with a modified car, as long as it scores more points than any of the others ! Especially if there aren't many cars in it's class, we've had shows were there have only been one car in a particular class, hence they win !

The "Pedant" within me forced me to make that remark.

Not a fan of concours really, but whatever floats your boat I suppose. But a 2000 would never have come from the factory with a 2200, and it's hard to see the criteria for "modified concours"

As you say, one car in the class and you can be fairly sure of being well placed................

None of which is meant to detract from the car mentioned.

Which centre caps fit Minilites ... I have a genuine set, all blasted, painted and ready to go. Offered on front, no space for cap with cover on end of hub!! Mine is 1 1972 V8 3500S. Can i put on a smaller cover on hub? Minilites are early 80's I believe ... HELP!! Will Fored fit, P5B? Problem is , is that wheel fits, but then no space for cap as cover on end of hub takes up all room??

Similarly, MAgstars are attractive. Have pal who works for Customville American car parts ..... what size WIll fit P6. I am temted and trade on Minilites :D

TwinPlenum, I think you can fit SD1 hub covers, give 'em a bit of extra persuasion with a hammer and your Minilites should fit. I dunno, but I think that's how the previous owner of my donor car fitted his polished SD1 Vanden Plas Alloys. I'd be interested in your Minilites if they're in A1 nick and the price is right! Drop me a line...

My centre caps are from a 1986 SD1 Vitesse that I ripped engine out of, as such not deep enough to cover centre boss. As for Minilites, they are fully refurbed, I had them blasted, etched them, primer filled them, painted and lacquerd them, all out of the gun. Brand new high speed 15 70 14 tyres and balanced. Id want to see £350, which theyset me back. But hold fire, I may well fit them, just need to get round ths glitch.

As Mr Task says, the secret is to use SD1 hub covers, which are not as deep as P6 but fit the P6 hub. Then you have a much better choice of wheel centre caps.

Sorry, been offline during move - In this case the metric SD1 studs allow me to use locally sourced chrome nuts for the Rostyles and the Vitesse nuts will work with the alloys they were made for. Thanks though!

Rostyles with white-walls and chrome trim rings also look very dressed up.

Oh, Twinplenum - I have to use SD1 hub covers if I am to fit the Vitesse wheels. If the centres for your Minilites are Vitesse ones, ...

I have ordered some SD1 hub covers from Rimmers. I am going to use centre caps from a 1986SD1 Vitesse Twin Plenum. I hope they will fit as they are quite flat? Do you know if the will?
