Hello could anybody tell me what the correct rated pressure for the rad cap should be?
im thinking of getting a 10psi as i have no expansion tank. the car is a 74 2.2 sc auto.
cheers.

7 psi is the correct pressure. Get some hose which fits over the outlet of the radiator, and run it into a suitable bottle. Make sure the radiator cap is a recovery type cap and you will have a recovery tank. I set my 2000 automatic up years ago with an empty orange juice bottle. Yours should be easier to do, as your battery is in the boot. Take in your non recovery cap into a parts store and the should be able to match a recovery cap easily. I think a Tridon CA0750 should work as a recovery cap.

ah, marvelous thank you very much i will do, though i have had a look on the net and they look pretty much a redundant thing of the past. even ebay dose not have any so im not sure about a motor factor having them? unless you know of a place? .
Cheers, Keith.

I am in the US, so I can not help you with where you could get one. However if you can find out what brands of radiator caps are available in the UK, then I may be able to cross reference this cap to another brand. Tridon is an Australian company, I do not know where they export to. I would take me a few day though before I will have time. I am out on the road at the moment, off to pick up wine from New York city.

J.R.Wadhams sells them, however I cannot tell if they are recovery type or not. However if they are not, they might be good enough to let you know what the manufacturers part number is. Then you should be able to work out a recovery type from that at a good parts store, where they not how to look stuff up in an applications book.

ok and found one now thanks.
hope the wine was worth the trip! id be more inclined to use the shop down the road :O)
Cheers

I should have mentioned that the wine was from a winery close to New York City, on Long Island, we had to go through New York city, to get there. We picked up about 825 gallons, which is a little more than you will find in the shop down the street. I work for a winery in Northern New York on the Saint Lawrence River. We will in due course bottle this wine, and then you will find it in a bottle shop some where.
