What wheels fit the P6?

Evening all

What modern wheel offset wheels would fit my 1974 3500? I am after something different and seem to remember years ago that Chrysler Jeep wheels would fit.

Something different yet retro is what I am after....

Sorry Rick

I expect everyone is waiting for me to answer this one!

Wheels on the P6 are a bit of a black art, thanks to the constriction of the rear wheel arch at the bottom front of the "mudguard" formed by the side of the boot and the D post area of the base unit.

The only wheel that is a sure fire winner is the SD1 Vitesse 15" alloy, and then if you want to use the widest possible tyre (which is 205) you need to machine about 3.5mm off the back. Otherwise you are almost certainly into taking a lump hammer to the D post area, losing the D post complete with weatherseal to the back door, running underdiameter tyres or a combination of all. It all depends how serious you want to be. You are right about the Jeep wheels though, and there have been photos around of several cars fitted, albeit with some or all of the compromises above.

Another wheel I have become aware of recently, but don't know much about is the wheel fitted to some Reliant Scimitars. It appears visually identical to the composite wheel (aluminium centre and chrome steel rim) fitted to MGB V8's, but with the Rover 5 stud centre to suit the Scimitar. I've no information what the rim width or offset is though. Because it is a composite wheel it ought to be reasonably simple to get an alternative rim fitted to achieve the required width and offset.

Use the search function to access a huge amount of information stored on here, or if you get stuck pm me and I'll do what I can to help.

Best Regards

Chris

For those of you wanting to see what Jeep wheels look like on the P6 here's one with them on Ebay item No 180213227401

I think they look great, guy claims it has had the front lowered, but I think it could come down a bit more. Maybe needs lower profile tyres too 50 or 45.

And for those that can't be bothered going off to ebay for a look....

Does anyone know if the P5 15" rostyle wheels will fit the P6 with the 205/65-15 tyres on it. I fancy the styre of them, and they can be bought in refurbished condition. Do they need any modification at all?

regards, Barten

The P5 Rostyle is not the ideal offset and in consequence won't take a 205. It's a bit narrow for 205 anyway. You can just about get away with 195's with this wheel though, which is a better size for it's width.

Since the rim and the centre of the P5 Rostyle are separate items rivetted together it is theoretically possible to replace the rim with a wider one giving the correct offset. Off the top of head I wouldn't know where to go to get this done though. There is a firm who refurbish P5 Rostyles so they must be able to change rims, give them a bell first? http://www.rjspratley.com/index.htm
