I had to laugh at the Question and answer bit on this.

Hi Have you not read the advert fully?

Pilkee from Bristol? That rings a bell.

Will it fit a 205 profile tyre?

Hi Richard.

It makes you wonder if they can read!
Another of my ads said, right at the top!!
" do not bid yet,as more info and pics to come on monday"
Guess what! Some muppet bid on it!! Now it will cost me to add pics and I cannot edit the original text!
Anyway,to answer your question!!
YES!!
It will comfortably fit my rovers 195/70x14 tyre and wheel, and it easily and snugly fits my TR6's 205.60x15 tyre and wheel.

Ps, link to my ads on Ebay!= http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZpilkee

Cheers Dave

I've had one or two classic questions on some of my stuff in the past plus you get the odd "clever clogs" trying to tell you about your item
A couple of examples were a 22000TC instrument panel which my advert said I had removed it from an R reg 2200TC & someone said words to the effect of "you're quite mistaken you'll find that is from a V8"

And also when I advertised my Vauxhall VX1800 fitted with 2300 engine & 5 speed ZF box removed from my crashed Firenza rally car someone commented "I can't see how it could have that gearbox in it as the VX was fitted with a Getrag box"
If these people know so much how did they not spot the fact that I had fitted the box myself & a VX1800 would have come with Vauxhall's 4 speed box & only the 800 or so late VX490s came with the Getrag box

Makes you wonder
Colin

Ive just asked caspercat if he fancies moving??
He said ;Thanks but I know when I am well off!!its taken me all this time to train my owner to do my bidding when I demand tickles, food, cuddles,a warm bed to snuggle in,and he's also bought me my own classic car to play with,as I keep putting my muddy paw prints all over his!
But heres an autograph and a photo of me for you to purr,VE at!!

Evening TP

I have only seen one repro, and I have to agree about aftermarket products in general!
But NOS original stock is very hard to come by,and can be hideously expensive if you are on a budget!!
Ian to be fair supplies a limited market, and has made financial sacrifices to get items remanufactured to supply items that, may well not be as good as originals, but are a lot better than the alternative, which would be to have nothing at all !!
Sometimes,"rarely" you even find that a repro is of a better quality and fit than the originals were!!
Its just like the TR6 front grille enamel badge repro's for £30 they are worse than bird poo!!
They are remaking originals now with the original tooling and they cost £150 albeit with a very good repro £20 stainless plinth!
I wouldnt like to mention a price for it,but I suggest you sit down when you find out what price they can sell for!
I was going to put a 3 figure reserve on it!
I am open to a sensible offer!!
I have seen a NOS one sell for well over £200!!
Its all down to their rarity, condition, desirability, the originality is a MUST for concourse buffs.
If 2 or more crazy rich concourse NADA P6 owning American types get wind of it? God knows what it will fetch!
Its the same with the wire wheels!!!
I am tempted to let the bidding go on to the end to see what happens, but if or when the right offer is made,I will decide what to do then!!
I knew these items would create a lot of interest, its probably not the best time to sell them, what with the credit crunch and all,but as I dont need them, the double garage is being built in the new year,I need to sell off all my excess stock to de-clutter and open up some space!!!
E me or PM me if you want to make a sensible offer!!
Cheers Dave

when in a rush mistakes are occasionally made.
As they say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit !!
Perhaps those that dont proclaim to be experts around P6 rovers require a little reassurrance before they bid ? (they may also read these threads !!)

Theres a lesson or 2 about rushing to be learnt there then!!
1. dont rush in to something your not sure of!
2. get the info you need before making a rush decision/bid
3. some mistakes due to rushing can be fatal! so dont rush!
4. make the time to take your time, but dont rush to make the time!
5. if you do rush, you must be prepared to take/accept the consequences, whatever they are!even if it means having the mickey taken out of you in fun! :)
And I do hope they, whoever they are?, DO!! read these threads!! "PROPERLY!!"

Aaaaawwwww! Isn't he cute

On the subject of bootlid badges I bought one of the repro inserts off Ian (I saw it before I bought it) & I think it's quite nice & yes I know it's not the same as the real thing but to be honest it's good enough for me (it's not as if my car's ever going to be all that nice anyway  ) & it's not likely to go see through or split like the originals. It would be lovely to have a mint original but I couldn't justify paying out the kind of money they fetch  not for a badge unless as you say Dave the car was a Concours example.

Once you've ground the 3 pegs off & sunk it into the chrome surround & with a very thin bead of Tiger seal around it to stop the water getting in & hide the gold edge they look better than they did with that cracked plastic thing with no picture left on it. And let's be honest who's going to know apart from P6 experts.

Regards Colin

As it happens the boot badge Ian sells is actually by Scott's. Ian makes no claim that it is original, his adverts always specify that it is repro metal. I too prefer the original, but the repro one is a good attempt if you can't make the real thing and is certainly better than a disintergrated one if you can't afford the £200 which Pilkie rightly says new originals cost (and I've paid before now!). Lesson is to carefully question what is to be supplied and LISTEN to the answers!!

As to the rubbers, those that have metal stiffeners, like the door gap fillers and the door to window seals are difficult. Repro's with the metal in are either not possible at all or hideously expensive, depending who you talk to. There is currently no question of reproducing them as original, although I, for one, am still looking for suppliers. If you take the time to search on here before you buy you will find lots of information on whose are the best and what clever dodges with current production parts can be used to get round these problems.

It is completely unfair to tar Ian with the difficulties inherent in supporting a low survival numbers old car. WE need to be intelligent and resourceful consumers to help the likes of Ian help us. If I thought Ian was making megabucks from our hobby I'd have a different attitude. But he isn't. We're jolly lucky to have his help and support! On a personal basis I've alsways found him transparently honest and endlessly helpful He doesn't deserve attacks like twin plenum's!

'Remember folks it's a very fine line between a hobby & a mental illness' (good line Diesel 2)

Of course Pilkie im not referring to you still being on-line in the early hours !. As you say its all in good fun ha ha
Still the sun is out and so will be the P6 shortly :D

I dont mind admitting that ive crossed that fine line!!
I am an addict!!!
I am addicted to classic cars, ebay and chatting on forums!!
If it wasnt for my pussy, caspercat, telling me its time to go to bed,I would be in a trance like state on the PC all night
Just getting the TR6 out for a blow the cobwebs out, wake me up spin as its dry, clear, but it is 'KIN COLD!!!
At least when my face hurts,I can blame the cold, and not the silly big grin all over my mush!!

I dont blame you Dave TR6's are great fun, I did a bit of work on one a couple of years ago for a Lad in Gateshead who incidentally used to live in the Bristol area & he took me for a blast & I couldn't get rid of the silly grin for 3 days

Me too.

The badge on mine was actually broken with large chunks of it missing.

So I got an insert from Ian, cleaned up the outside of the chrome and it looks great.

I will be visiting Ian's parts shed a lot more in the future and can only hope that he does make a good sucess of it, or parts around here will be a lot more difficult to find.

I think what happens is they get water in behind them & that in turn freezes in the Summer SORRY Winter & cracks the badge & at the kind of money reall ones go for I would be most disgruntled if it happened again

I've bought quite a bit off Ian & have always been very pleased with what I've got. I know some repro bits can be a little iffy but Ian tries to stock the best he can get hold of which if nobody makes a better one isn't that easy but I know he is always looking at getting more & more bits re-done to a better standard but that is a very expensive game & it takes time

I have to admit that i am also finding P6 ownership really addictive - what a cracking car it is and i am delighted to be back behind the wheel. I just managed to get some pictures of my dad and his partner in his police 3500 (taken back in the early 70s) - propper retro stuff ! - I have asked him to write an article re his experiences of P6s in the police back in the 70. Might make a good read !

I have also bought some bits and pieces from Rover Classics and the service was fantastic.

Does anyone make a repro bonnet badge ?

And does anyone know what current production car's window rubbers fit the P6 ?
