Wheel nuts angled on both ends?

When removing the wheels on my French spec 3500 auto, the right hand side wheel nuts are angled where they meet the wheel and faced off flat on the other end. The left hand wheel has one nut as per the other side, but the remaining four are angled at both ends. I presumed that someone had simply and stupidly put the nuts on backwards until I saw that both ends were the same...Has anyone seen this before or do I have another French only part?
With so many bodges found to date, I am getting paranoid!
Thanks, Philippe

Wheelnuts with the bevel on both ends are common, I can't remember if they are specific to the V8 or 4cyl models or just that what was available at the time was used.

hi philippe and harvey,
i am not 100% sure on this one but over the last 11 years i have been restoring and breaking them i have noticed that the ones angled at both ends were from series one cars and never series two, but that is only what i have found.

The trouble nowadays any type that fits can get put on, so cars that come along could have had them changed in the past and not with the correct type as fitted from new. I'm thinking in particular of when cars are robbed of "S" wheeltrims and nuts. Regardless of type I would always want them all to be the same on a car, not that it really makes any difference.

I found out this evening why I have odd nuts (so to speak). Latest horror discovery is that I have 5" wide wheels on the front and 5.5" on the rear. It seems that I have series one wheels and a few nuts on the front of the car...and the lorry tyres are coming off this weekend as well:)
