Wheely Good News - At last! Alloys that fit!

If you've been reading this forum for a while you may have read of my trials trying to get a set of wheels to fit my two p6's.

It seems a lot of people compromise on tyre rolling radius (ie overall gearing), knocking the D post about, putting up with a bit of scraping while cornering, high ride height etc.

Part of my problem is that I really want to run 205 section tyres to cope with the available performance from the Thailand car's 4.6. I knew it ought to be possible with the right wheel because the Denovo equipped cars ran 205 section tyres ex factory.

I started out with some georgeous Jensen Interceptor alloys which sit far too far out in the rear wheel arch, tried some P5B Rostyles (rims too narrow for the tyre width and a bit marginal on D post clearance) and finally gravitiated back to SD1 Vitesse cross spoke alloys. Even these were set a little too far out.

Well now we've fixed it! The Vitesse alloys need to have a relief machined around the centre cap hole to suit the P6 front hub grease cap so while we were about it we skimmed about 3.5mm from the back face of the wheel. There is a raised boss around the stud holes / hub seating area which is easy to machine off.

Result is a perfect lie centrally in the mudguard with sufficient clearance to run 205/65 15's even with an unmodified D post and suspension on full compression.

RESULT!!

Because the lost material was in the form of a localised boss, I'm quite happy we have not compromised wheel strength and there is ample depth of material remaining in the bottom of the stud holes.

Phew!

Anyone want some Interceptor alloys?

Chris
