HI - I can anybody know where I can buy new headlights for a 1975 P6 3500S and are all 4 lights the same part - I live in Kent (UK) - cheers

This sounds like a task for Google! You are looking for 5 3/4" round lamps. As standard they were Lucas sealed beam, the inners main beam only, the outers main and dipped. But there's no reason you need to stick to that. A common change is to fit dual filaments to the inners as well as the outers and there are several varieties of Halogen conversion available. The latter have separate bulbs so you could (shhh!) go for 100W for a bit of artificial daylight if you wanted! My personal favourites are the Cibie single filament complex surface lamps, but they are hideously expensive and getting difficult to get hold of. With the exception of those all are easy to obtain.

Halogens in today's motoring environment i would have said were an essential. But don't forget that if you uprate the wattage of the lamps either with bigger bulbs or by doubling up the dipped beam you really ought to convert the wiring with a headlamp relay so you don't burn the switch contacts in your light switch and main/dip stalk.

75 watt inners are relatively easy to find on Ebay and at autojumbles for a couple of quid each, also the outers 37.5 watt with twin filament. Just make sure you can test them or they are guaranteed if bought off ebay!
I had them on my Dolly sprint and have them on my Rover,no wiring upgrade should be req for these.but if you also fit powerfull fog/spot lights then a relay, upgraded wiring should be fitted!!
Chris??
When people say in todays motoring environment what exactly is different from the 60's,70's,80's,??
It still gets dark,it can rain, get foggy, spray off tyres!
The only difference brighter lights will make is you can see better, and blind/dazzle the oncoming motorist with the much cleaner light that is emitted from modern lights!!But they don't help you to see better when you are dazzled!!!
It seems to be a competition between car makers to see who can make the brightest legal lights!!
I have noticed that where I could see where I am going quite easily before, now its more difficult due to the oncoming bright lights blurring vision and creating glare off wet roads!
Its not a fault with my eyes either!!!
Ive flashed a few drivers thinking that they are on full beam, only to be totally blinded when they flash me back on full beam!!
The roads are getting more dangerous at night coz we cant see where we are going due to dazzle!! and we cant easily spot cyclists either as the little flashing red led lights they use these days are pittiful!!

I concur to some extent Pilkie, biggest problem today is the contrast between brightly lit and unlit sections of road, together with people who haven't got their lights adjusted right. Oh and whacking great 4X4's with the lights set so high in the body they can't avoid dazzling everybody!

Top tip for aligning lights: wait for a foggy evening and go out to a quiet bit of road. The fog allows you to see exactly where each beam is heading. Start by setting up the main beams absolutely straight and level, then go back and check that the dips don't go anywhere unfortunate as a result. You'd be amazed the level of error that identifies over lights set with garage's magic boxes and the improvement in your vision should be statling!

There was a time when you could get the halogen headlights from a 1970's Honda Accord and they were a straight fit
I don't think there's many old Hondas left now . Are Capri headlights any good ? What about some BMW's which had 4 round headlights ?

Yep, they're nice and period, Stan. The Lucas halogen is not bad but doesn't give the best beam pattern available.

Again to be clear; 5 3/4" headlampos are not model specific - any one will do!

Just been looking at lights on ebay etc,and have noticed some advertisers gettting imp and decimal measurements mixed up for them!! ie 5.75 inch!!!= 5 3/4"
They are, as already mentioned, a very universal lamp unit, triumphs, capri, bmw, jag xj6 inner, rolls, the list goes on!!
I think I may have a set of 4 hella units somewhere in my stash! Will dig them out this weekend and bung them on Ebay,"unless somewone on here is interested!! E ME??",,,"as I dont think I will use them,as I have a good stock of sealed beam units.

thanks all - really good stuff. I got some from JRW in the end (£100 for 3 Hal's), fairly expensive I guess but not the end of the world.
