which 2 seater open top classic?

We went to see a spitfire mk4 which wad very Ropey. But we plumped for a nice blue midget, just a couple of scrapes on the bodywork and 12 months ticket which will leave anough money in the pot for a new hood and a sports steeringwheel. Lovely!

No point taking time over things is there!

Sounds pretty spot on from what you were looking for!

Well done. Hope your Mum gets plenty of miles clocked up this summer. I do like Midgets. If time/money/space ever permits, it would certainly be high on my list of candidates as a P6 companion. Now, you have to post some pic's please :D .

Looks like you got a very good buy there. The car looks very tidy and seems to have had quite a bit of work done.

that looks pretty damn good for the price! is she pleased with it?

Well done for getting a midget over a spitfire :p they're much better (in my honest, unbiased opinion  )

she is, dad is absolutely livid but he'll warm to it!

1396 midget.... where is the best place to get a new hood for it? ive seen a variety of different hoods on different sites at wildly different prices, whcih is best?

Dons hoods somewhere in Birmingham have a good name for quality and price!
Get a good quality,OE one in Vinyl, easy to keep clean and always look good with a wipe over!
I reckon £130ish should get you one,and they are not too hard to fit if you take your time.

^^
wot ee sez

Wait for a nice warm day to fit it, the vinyl is much easier to play with when a bit warm.

some of the double duck sooper dooper hoods are extreeemely expensive, I'd go for vinyl. Seeing as the thing is like driving along in a noisy flappy tent with the roof on, mine spends most of the time with it off.

How tired is the existing hood? (if it has one). If it's not totally falling apart then it might be worth keeping it, the material is waterproof, but obviously if the windows have all fallen out....

Another car I'd consider... Fiat X1/9. 1500cc, low band of car tax, 40mpg, mid-engined handling dynamics,(blow the doors off any MGB / MIDGET/SRITFIRE round corners) 2 boots! and targa top practicality- so less likely some toe-rag to knife your soft top. Prices vary considerably £500 for MOT'D runner to £10,000 for concours, extremely low miles/ownership etc; £2000-£2500 should get you a decent straight car but watch for rust -they 're italian after all! and 3rd gear sycros on gearbox. Good luck whatever you choose.

Looks a very nice little runaround. Always fancied a Midget. Bring on the Summer!

Took me a while to get oriented in the engine bay. Then I realised it's the Triumph lump! For a while I thought the A-series was in backwards!!
