Which electronic ignition?

In the course of trying to solve my fueling/vapour lock issues (see my previous topic), I have decided to renew my coil, ditch the points and condenser, and go for electronic ignition.

I would really welcome any advice on which system/brand to go for...

Thanks,

John

is money a problem is the first question - i believe the pertronix stuff is best thought of....

otherwise look at simonbbc. You can get an entire dizzy with electronic ignition and a coil.

I went down the electronic road on my P6b with a unit [ dizzy etc ] out of a wrecked V8 95 discovery .
Had to change the end cog of the disco dizzy with the P6 one to fit into the P6 oil pump shaft .
Starts first time , even if she has been sitting for a few weeks .Gives the starter motor less work to do .
Lovin it

You've obviously done something, but not the above, because if you had you wouldn't have any oil pressure. There is a custom gear you can fit to do the job, but the standard P6B gear won't.

I fitted a Lumenition system into my Rover, which runs with the ballast resistor and the original coil, way back in 1991. To date it has delivered over 200,000 Miles of perfect service.

true - the lumenition does have impressive longevity. I only removed mine because the distributor shaft had a lot of movement which it shouldn't have had.

WHS^^^^

I fitted Lumenition to my V8 in 1994 after it ran rough on the points - a thoroughly splendid bit of kit.

I use a Pertronix Ignitor on my old Triumph. Apart from a tachometer compatibility issue(tach not working)it has been superb for the last 7 years. My father has the Lumenition Magnetronic fitted to his P6B which I believe is the best for reliability and stealth with no unsightly amplifiers on display.

I had found the Simonbbc ignition systems didn't really work for me. Other than being a low cost initial purchase, I found the finite life span a little inconvenient to say the least.

Thanks for the comments so far. Rockdemon, I guess I was looking at something to just replace points and condenser, not whole dizzy. Money is an issue... Lumenition sounds good, any views on Powerspark?

Operaroverman, Is yours a v8?
I have a Pertronix ignitor for the v8 I would be willing to sell.
I used it for a year or so in the lucas before upgrading to a mallory dual point distributor.
I also have a Pertronix flamethrower coil to compliment it, but this might get sold tomorrow depending on the outcome of some work on another car...
I'm going to be running a 4.6 engine distributorless so I'm selling off much of my 3.5 upgrades to help fund the project.
PM me if you're interested :)
Jim

Another plug for Pertronix from me, I have had nothing but success from my Pertronix II and flamethrower II coil, been in the car about 3 or 4 years now, no issues at all except great performance.

Powerspark seem to get mixed reviews. If you search the forum for poweespark you'll probably find some stuff.

Hi Jim,

I have tried to PM but it won't move from my outbox! Is your inbox full perhaps? Yes I have a 3500 auto and am interested in your Petronix…! :D

Old topic but I have a electronic ignition module schematic who can be programmed, even when driving.
suitable for all engines until a V8. has also a LPG setting. processor is a very fast RISC type.

Did found it on internet a couple years back, have not yet made it and no pcb, but I do go make one and try this thing
proberly it is protected by designer, but I do not now.

regards.
