Windscreen Washers

Were electrically operated windscreen washers standard right from the beginning with the introduction of the P6 or was there a variation? Did vacuum operated washers every grace the very early issues?

I ask as when I was a boy my Dad owned a 1962 Humber Super Snipe series 3 and that lovely car had vacuum operated windscreen washers. I can remember a button, stainless steel or nickel silver, I don't know which...on the burr walnut dash, which you pressed and held and then upon release jets of water would rise up and wash the screen then slowly recede away. Magical stuff.. :)

Rover always used Electric; even on P4's. The vacuum washers as you describe I remember on early 60's Fords, so they were definitely a feature of the English scene. Fords even had vacuum operated wipers run off a tapping from the inlet manifold a bit like a brake servo. They went very slowly when you drove gently!
