Windscreens - Replacement

I don't think anybody manufactures laminated windscreens for our P6s anymore. They're like rocking horse ####!
Try eBay (somebody in the UK is advertising a full set of green Sundym glass at the moment), windscreens are offered now and then by people breaking old rustheaps! Finding glass for reasonable money however is not always easy! They're rare, and of course getting rarer... Breakers Yards might be a good bet (I live abroad where supplies are even scarcer, and the salvage yards haven't got any old Rovers in them out here :-( ).
Glass is of course more difficult to package up and transport than other parts, but most car glass suppliers will provide big cardboard boxes and styrofoam padding, as their new glass is delivered well packed. You might have to ask in advance and get them to save the stuff, mostly it gets disposed of. All you have to do is find a seller who is willing to get hold of some and a parcel service prepared to transport fragile glass! Good luck.

John,

I am currently looking for a new laminated screen. I did get one several years ago quite easily - I'll be digging out the paperwork soon & will let you know if I can get another now.

I presume you are after a laminated screen due to experience of the far more common toughened one going 'BANG' in a very loud manner!

That happened to me a few years ago with the family in the car. Not a pleasant experience. My replacement laminated one was hit a few weeks ago by a large pebble from a lorry coming the other way. A large circle of damage, but only the outer surface - I'm glad I changed.

My 2nd P6 is being rebuilt at the moment & will get a laminated screen as a matter of course.

Incidentally, I took a second-hand laminated screen out of a car in a scrapyard recently, only to find it was tinted (yes I did suspect it was before I took it out). If you are interested in that one I'll let you know where it is (East Yorkshire). It has a small amount of delamination at the bottom (cloudiness) though I don't think that would be visible when fitted in a car.

You do indeed - instant response to my email query

"Good morning Fenton,

We normally carry the P6 windscreen in stock and have a clear one available at the moment. We can get a green tinted one made to order by Triplex if that is what you require. The clear one will be £85 plus VAT and a green tinted one £95 plus VAT. We have branches fairly close to Dover and the tunnel for collection.

Best regards,

Phil.

I have to say that the prices I asked for were WITHOUT fitting and for me to collect from a depot on mainland UK (close to channel port). Prices advised for others may therefore be different

I emailed a company called 'Uroglas' the other day. They supply/remanufacture glass for a variety of classic cars, and can even supply a heated front windscreen for most at quite reasonable prices.

I haven't heard back yet, but maybe a few more inquiries would persuade them to look into producing a new laminated (+tinted), heated screen for the P6!

Just a thought!

Have just phoned A1 Carglass of Hull (01482) 224206. They'll get me a clear laminated front screen for Monday (next working day!) for £68.00 + VAT.

......not bad at all.

For those of us on the opposite side of the world (ie Australia), I have found that good old "Windscreens O'Brian" are able to supply and fit a screen both front and back without much trouble.
Costs about Aus$250 for the front. You will have to supply your own rubbers tho. ???
Cheers
GUY :)

Just had a look at the site & they don't have Rover listed at all. Love the idea of a heated front screen though but expensive to kit the whole fleet out with them. :)

Hi, Thank you to the guys who recommended National, I needed a clear screen after some scroat fell through the origional (don't ask..).
Really helpful, knew what they were talking about - they have 6 new screens left in the UK - all laminated.
I hope its ok to pass this on (moderator), they were first class!
Thanks guys.
