Wiper delay..

My wiper delay hasn't worked since I've had the car, so in a fit of pique, I decided to have a go at fixing it. This proved easier than I thought. I turned on the ignition, and set the wiper switch to "delay." I then moved the slider, which seemed to be a bit stuck, and hey presto, it started working, although with a wildly variable delay, sometimes about a second or two, sometimes about 8 seconds. The slider arm seems to have a small, fine spring attached at the end of the "wedge" which seems to be hanging loose. Where does the other end go to? I'm wondering if this could be causing my wildly varying delay. :?: If I stretch the spring slightly to pull the slider down towards the engine, the delay is constant, 4 seconds, but I can't seem to see where to hook it to

There is a hole there for it to go in. I am not looking at the motor at present, but from memory it is on the top edge of the raised circular section. By the sound of it your motor might need a bit of lube. Some silicon spray directed around the slider will help.

Ron.

Thanks Ron, That makes sense, as when I held the spring in roughly that location, it all worked well. I'll clean the rust off the motor a bit & have a look. :)
