Wonky Billy!

Hi everyone, long time no type :D

I would like to pick your brains about a problem i'm currently having. The arse end of my P6 is sitting to low on the drivers side, so I bought some new heavy duty springs and a pair of new shocks. Unfortunately, although both sides are approx. an inch higher than they were, the drivers side is still to low. Myself and a friend were underneath it for a good 30 mins this afternoon trying to work out whats wrong, but there isn't anything visible.

I was so convinced it was the springs, thats why I bought a new pair. I have read in the Rover Bible about adjusting the trim of the rear suspension, but unless you have a shim about 3 inches thick, I can't see how that would work.

Your help, as always, is appreciated. Oh the car in question is a 1972 3500 'S'

Cheers
Jim

Hello Jim,

Did you also fit rebushed suspension links too,..ie pinion cross member along with top and bottom links? These can make a difference when rebushed,,,more than you might expect.
The maximum that you can shim either spring is 9.5mm. I assume that the near side spring did seat properly. What about the upper and lower spring cushions? Were they all fairly consistant in appearance?

What are you using as your reference point in determining the "list" to the driver's side?

Typically if the car is leaning to one side, shims are used to a maximum of the afore mentioned, and if that still fails to rectify the situation then new springs are required. Seeing as you have already have them fitted, unless there is a problem with the spring on that side,... :?
