'Y' reg 3500

A perfect exemplar of the idea that a surplus of cash often accompanies a dearth of good taste - no?

For all my snobbery, I wouldn't at all mind owning such a low mileage beauty, but the door furniture (and maybe the seats) would go into store for the next owner!

Academic really, my only spare cash at the mo is my winter fuel payment from the department of Work and Pensions.

Given the car has travelled such a reported low mileage, I wonder why the original grey oil filler cap has been replaced? The coil also has been changed, and the front door hinges appear to have been painted. When the cars were painted at the factory, the hinges were left bare as they were fitted after painting the base unit, panels etc. When cars are repainted, sometimes the painter cannot be bothered to remove the hinges, consequently they too are then painted.

As far as I remember the late cars had the orange cap.

As Harvey says, the later cars had the orange oil filler cap. Seems to go hand in hand with 18ACR alternators.

My previous 1974 3500 had an orange cap, so not that late.

Round about the time of the intro of the BW65, which would fit in with both of the above.

Hi Gents,

Now this is interesting. My Rover is a 74 model, factory fitted with an 18ACR, grey cap. A friend of mine in Sydney, his Rover being a later 74, 18ACR and BW65, also grey cap.
Obviously they did start filtering through, but earlier than I was thinking.
