Will do a compression check at the weekend and let you know. Thanks again for the advice, Harvey.
And hope it doesn't find another one. LolIf you do that then you should be able to either find a problem or eliminate that as the cause.
Further to my last post. I have a idea I may have connected the battery the wrong way round. I didn't put the original battery back on, but put a newer one on. I assumed without looking that the terminals were the same. If this is the case I can now see why it burnt out. Hopefully I won't do that again! I feel a right prat doing that. I know some people say it is easily done, but considering I have worked on cars for nearly 50 odd years I should have been more observant. Doesn't matter what my excuse for doing it is I should not have done it!
I am sure they are very similar in size on mine.It might be yours aren’t different. The ones on my 2000 are the same size.
Thank, Colin. I'll have a look on eBay and give it a try.I would be tempted to try epoxy putty on it.
Handy for all sorts of things, £5 ish a stick is worth a punt til you find a replacement.
No I'm not a para. Just fussy about getting it right. LolHi there,

You really need to get out there and sort it, m8. Now we have good weather I am making the best of it. Lol.I think they are the same type of thing, it is handy stuff. I try and keep a stick of it for repairs, actually rebuilt a set of hair straighteners my sister sat on. they lasted years.
Good to see you are still tinkering away with the car, I really need to get into mine, it is always inspiring when I read other owners stories.
