There was a bit more progress as I managed to get a 4.0 from a disco. Not sure whether to just use just heads or rebuild the entire engine to make a street sleeper. I need a to run confidently on unleaded.
I did get it running but it kept blowing water out. Discovered all the water jackets are...
After a period of absence from this site due to work etc I now need the impetus to pick up where I left off!!
All words of encouragment greatly recieved!!!
Progress update.
Brakes front & rear are all rebuilt, fitted and bled.
And this morning after some carefull oil pump priming and fettling with the timing it burst into life.
Luvley!!
It will see daylight soon.
If I recall it sounded like the pads were worn down so I ignored it.
Hate to think what sort of sparking was happening under the fuel tank all this time!!!
Anybody had this happen to them before on the rear disc?
The car came off the road cos the brakes were iffy. It turns out that the disc had sheared from the hub to which the caliper was holding!!
Lucky I have a spare and the caliper was untouched.
Front calipers have been rebuilt now with new seals and a fresh lick of paint.
Took 10bar of pressure to get the near side pistons out. Pistons are a bit pitted but I'll take that risk as for the cost of a new set I may as well get re-con calipers.
All ready to be re-fitted.
Thanks for the welcome lads.
Like i say, the other side doesn't look so good but should be easily repairable.
Rebuilt front calipers should go on this weekend. Already fitted new hoses and pipes.
I'm near Rochester in Kent.
Well heres my attempt at some photos.
It's covered in quite a bit of grime.
The nearside wing and door is damaged due to master cylinder failing (I coudn't stop and hit the side of the garage).
Other than that it's complete. ETs, 3500S steering wheel and hub caps.
Hello chaps
New to the forum but not new to P6. I was evicted from my council garage so it has spurned me on to re-commission my P6 V8 after languishing for 10 years. I've owned this since I was 21. Still only 60,000 miles on the clock but looking a bit sorry for itself now.
Starting with...
Fellas
Am currently rebuilding the old calipers with new seals etc. Pistons are a little bit pitted but should be OK.
Always good to have another option though.
Got lots to do on the ole' motor and it's been a while since I tinkered with it. Already fitted a new master cylinder, got new flexi...
Thanks for the reply.
I was thinking that if the mounting holes are on the same pitch and the caliper doesn't foul the disc they should be OK. Pads are only 8 quid and brand new calipers are only £60 quid non exchange. If they can stop a range rover then they'll have no problems stopping a P6...
I'm just starting to re-commissioning my 3500 auto after 10 years of hibernation. As you can guess the brakes need attention.
I've heard that range rover calipers can be substituted for the 3 pot rover items. Can anyone confirm this? Obviously these are much cheaper.
