My daughter came across this picture yesterday of the old Sheffield Victoria railway station. Plenty of interest in it for P6 fans 'though :p

Trains and Rovers, Mmmm! My favourite combination!

Both Rovers are really old ones too, the '65 one is easy, the other is pre suffix, so must be '64 or earlier!

I suspect there's a few on here with similar interests! Must be the mechanical / engineering connection between the two. I've been an avid rail fan since I was little & am heavily involved in rebuilding part of the old 'Malton & Driffield Junction Railway' in this neck of the woods as a heritage railway. No tangible presence at this stage, but we already have a successful funding bid under our belts. :D
Have a look at http://www.yorkshirewoldsrailway.org.uk.

Except for the Taxi in the background and one unidentifiable nose pocking out at the back , I have owned all those models at some stage .
Quite a nostalgia trip for me -thanks for the pic .
Must say the Westminster was a lovely ride in its day- big six and armchairs for seats with lots of wood. Rover came along and spoilt that memory .

Hi, the newest car there is the 'F' plate Mk1 Escort so the 'old Rovers' are about 5
or 6 years old. The unidentifiable nose poking out at the end belongs to I think a
Ford Zephyr/Zodiac MkIV. What say you.

Reverse parking
Imagine trying to do that now
Some bastard would drive into your spot while you pulled forward and sorted out where reverse gear went

Sheffield Victoria....

...reduced to this in in December 1985...

Enough said...what a waste...

EDIT: Great photo by the way Phil! :)

If you took that photo Stan, you must be an enthusiast.

I took one in '84 I think of a Metro-Cammell unit going through. I was at Sheffield University in the early 80's so know the city well.

Was this a Great Central Station IIRC? The one the clock tower is now the only surviving bit?

That 2000 on the right is certainly an early one. Certainly pre-1965. Great photo!

Hi Nick,

Sounds like you're thinking of Nottingham Victoria, after it was closed in '69 they built a shopping centre on the site with the clock tower poking out of the top. Both it and Sheffield Vic were GC, yes.

Anyone for another Rover / Railway combo...? This is Theddingworth station on the old Rugby - Peterborugh line which closed in '66, the entire staion is intact including both platforms...

Nidge

EDIT : oops, where did that attachment go?!!!

A bit more modern (January 2006) but how about this one?

My now sold (& vandalised & burnt out) V8 together with 60002 at Maud's Bridge near Thorne, Doncaster.
