A bit of servo action

So, my old P6 sat for about three years after I had an accident that wrote it off. I had rebuilt the two brake servos just before (the two or not related :p). Needless to say before I fit them to my new project I wanted to check them over and refresh them a little.

Before I started on cleaning up and painting I dismantled them to check that the seals were holding up ok and nothing had leaked into the vacuum tanks. I also removed the air valves off the top of the cylinders and the small reaction pistons that open the air valves as I didn't want to lose these tiny little buggers!

I then masked all the ports, threaded studs on the back and such with canvas gaffer's tape. I used glass beads to remove loose material and surface rust, being beads it won't remove good metal. I had tried to cadmium plate the vacuum tanks when I rebuilt them five years ago but I hadn't done a great job with my home kit and it was flaking in places.

I then rubbed down and spirit wiped the units before painting with primer, a fine metallic basecoat, and a few coats of with two pack clearcoat.I also stripped, straightened and painted the bracket in black with a gloss clearcoat while I was at it.

While the paint was curing I cleaned up the nylon air valve bodies, blasted and buffed up the metal bases of the air valves (pleanty of original plating there so it was ok to do that). And also cleaned up the pipes with a mild degreaser and solvent.

I reassembled everything and I have to say I'm really happy with the results. Can't wait to get the rest of the engine bay up to snuff when I have the new car in the garage.
