Box issues

Righto, what if the band is to tight. The closest thing I could get to a torque wrence was making my 8mm spanner one ft long and hanging a 4.5lb weight off it, I left .5 of a lb off to accommodate the weight of my spanner contraption. I have cleaned filter and sump reassembled and oiled up, upon testing I get the perrrping noise in D 2 and L, which was probably what it was doing before but as it all of sudden got so much werse I parked up with out testing thoroughly, my bad. I also forgot to mention that just befor it got real bad I lost reverse briefly for about 2 minutes but going through each gear a couple of times got it back. So Harvey, gimme the bad news. The bands in my 35 are relatively new, will fit the 65? I am also assuming u will tell me I need to fully flush my system with new correct oil a couple of times and overhaul the servos, tomorrow I am going to pull the box out so hit me with the werst as it'll be out so I mite as well do it all.
My oil did smell burnt and the bottom of sump and magnet was grey with like chalk dust but obviously it was metal dust, like the inside of a drum brake.

Also I did not adjust rear band (drivers side) and the front band took 3 or 4 turns before it started to go tight. What does the rear band control and is it worth a shot adjusting it befor removing gbox?

And to save some coin could I just fit the 65 internals to the 35 box as only the planetary gears are smashed in the 35 so at least could I use the 65 planetary gears?

If the band adjustment is too tight then the band will drag when it should be free and it will overheat and fail. The rear band operates in REVERSE and "1", if that fails you won't go backwards, and you won't get engine braking it "1", although the car will still drive. Sounds like you've got so many problems elsewhere that adjusting it will just be a waste of time.
You can fit a 65 gearset into a 35 box, and IIRC you can use either of the 65 box flexi bands as a front band in a 35, ideally with a 35 box self adjusting servo.

Thanks heaps for the help Harvey, I'll be over hauling the 35 with the 65 gears, appreciate your input been fantastic. One last thing, sorry in advance. If the band is too to tight would It make a noise like I discibed, or what would the dragging cause the gearbox to do, until I get it in to pieces I'm still not 100% of the goings on In an automatic.

I can't really be sure about the kinds of noises it would make, but I'd expect a build up of heat, leading the the failure of the band itself. If the front band was locked on solid then as far as I can work out the car would only drive properly in "2", in first gear "D" it would pull away in SECOND instead of first, and when it changed from 2-3 the box would lock up, and in all other gears it would just be like doing a stall test.
