..... they are led and does say they are not strictly road legal, they are for shows etc, will see when its dark later but they have to be better than the originals.
cheers Mick.

That's a massive improvement, where did you get them from Mick? May treat buttercup to a pair

We have a Lucas Electrical shop around the corner Guy, expensive though £ 1.80p each :D . Could pick you up some and post down.

Obvious question again Mick

Why not just put your headlamps on? Is the lumen output of that LED lamp actually any brighter than the original? Just looks like a cooler colour to me (and not cool as in yeah man  )

Maybe people are just flashing because they like your car :D

I'm sad Dave, don't know why but when it's early evening, I use side lights, then as it gets dark the heads come on. As a rule of thumb, if the heads do not light up the road in front of me then it's side lights.

Trust you Willy, just as I was sitting down with a brew. Never checked because it's still light out, but seeing it is you as soon as its a bit darker will go out in the freezing cold and check :D Have only done one side so will be able to compare.

Now its dark time to compare the side lights, first new and old.............

.. second pic is from the side...

... and third both new lights, which I think is a massive improvement....

I bet you were :D. by the way willy, what bulb did you use for your interior light, was it to make it brighter.

Yes please Mick, have you got a paypal account? If so you can send me an invoice inc postage let me know and I will pm/text my email.

I always use my side lights round town and also get flashed from time to time. We must be old skool Mick

Lights are to see and be seen .I'd rather use dipped beams as soon as it starts getting dark.

Dave you probably live in a area out of the bright city lights, obviously headlights are used when dark or lack of street lighting. I agree with Mick headlights on when they make a differance

Those side light are a massive inprovement, time for my dumb question, do the telltales on top of the lenses still work ?

Outside of the legal requirements, headlamp use is very much down to individuals. I was always of the opinion that if you have sidelights on in order to be seen then you might as well put headlamps on just to make sure. That inludes during poor visibility due to low daytime light conditions. I used to regularly travel up and down the A9 and would put my headlamps on even during bright daytime sunlight just to make sure I was seen. The A9 is a particularly bad single carriageway road where many drivers take risks overtaking so I wanted to make sure I was doing as much as I could to be seen. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and that one time when the simple action of moving the switch from side to headlamps that might have improved your chances of being seen is IMHO well worth the effort.

Thos LED lamps are great Mick. Not just because they look brighter, but also the cooler colour makes them more noticeable. I just wonder how many oncoming cars will now flash you because your sidelights are very bright now? You said yourself that they are not road legal and for me that is a slippery slope to doing other things to your car outside the bounds of what is legally allowed. We all push those legal boundaries, we wouldn't be human if we didn't. It's your conscience though and your far enough away from me that it makes no difference anyway.

Anyway that's my tuppence worth

Dave

To be fair, these are probably only not legal because they're not CE marked or something like that. They're white (not blue), not overly bright, and give a good side spread, I can't see you having any problems with them in terms of MOT etc.

Whether you should be running with sides or dipped is another matter. I think sidelights are really just designed as parking markers (interestingly the LED bulbs should use less power and hence be better for this), and dipped beams should be used whenever it's dark enough to actually need lights. That doesn't mean you shouldn't drive round with the side lights on when it's safe to do so.

In the 800 I have no choice as it's dimmed dip beam as long as the ignition is on, and only drops to side lights with ignition off.

Now who's for flat bars of white led's under the headlamps ?
