hello all!
the more i see on here of owners naming their cars!
i always figured it was a thing women and girls did but i'm obviously wrong and i actually enjoy seeing it
its adds a personality to the car
mine has always just been 'the rover'
thinking of classic names over the years makes me feel of a snake name like 'cobra, and 'viper'
so knowing my car is it ok to call it 'the rattler'!!?

Very good - I take it that it rattles a bit.

Sparky is named such because of the terrible state of the wiring when I bought him.

Richard

BTW - I am not a girl

Mine is called the Soup Dragon. And as you point out it adds character. But I did'nt choose her name. The orginal owner would often take he's nephews out in the car, it was he's nephews that called her the Soup Dragon on the account of being green (well Lunar Gray) and the reg when read backwards spelling Soup. I know this as shortley after buying the car a chap came running over to me in the car park and proceded to tell me loads of history of the car and how he and he's bother called her the 'Soup Dragon'. :) I like it and is one of the reasons i'll not change her colour when it's time for a respray.

Mine is called Ruby. The name was already written in the short history book that the previous owner gave to me with the car. She was christianized back in the seventies, just after the car was bought.

The colour is Monza Red, so it's clear what the name means.

Lucky is named after his registration - 777. I'm not quite sure why he's a him, but it's quite definite.

Here's my three - DD the Rover (from the reg LDD), Winnie the Wolseley, named by her first owner, and Cecile the Morris 8, (from the reg CCD and Cecile my Aunt, my Father's sister, whose joint legacies gave me just enough cash to buy her) - and yes I did manage to get all three to the same show - its ten minutes walk from home, so it was drive one in, walk back, get the next and so on!

It reminds me Hollowell Steam Rallye!

I attended this event three years ago, when I was living in Northampton. What a good memories!

Ahh, Spain is fabulous, but... I miss England too. Sniff.

We have to name the cars, most of the cars I have owned were/are Rovers so we can't just say "the Rover".

My 2200tc is called "poppy" partly because it is Richelieu red with Black roof and spare wheel on the boot. It wasn't named until I MOT'd it on the 5th November and took it to a Remembrance day parade, It just seemed right.

Bradd is the latest addition to the fleet. The name comes From the registration number B RDD. Sort of suit the 80's image of a fully loaded Vitesse. A bit brash and mouthy.

There has been a few cars which never really took a name even the mini which I have owned for 4 years has only ever been "The mini". I think naming a car atleast shows some kind of interest by the owner.

My car came with it's own name when I got it

However, we've since renamed her.....yes her ........Verity the V8 :D

My dad's 3500S was called "Battlestar Galactica". The inherited Volvo 340 that replaced it was just "that $%&^ing thing" and it broke a halfshaft in short order and got sold. The next car was a bright red 1989 G-reg BMW 318i Touring ("Gustav", after the BF109G and also after Gustav Holst and Gustav Mahler). Subsequently we've had a dark blue 318i Touring (late 99/V) and a dark green 520i Touring (2001/Y). Haven't got round to naming either of them...

That looks fantastic! Isn't that a Twin Plenum? I don't think the ordinary Vitesse got that big chin spoiler... I rather fancy a big TVR V8 (or maybe the Corvette unit, or the Jaguar 5-litre) in one of those, possibly coupled with some kind of all-independent rear.

I'm starting to think that you should try some cars out as they come and see what you think, before you modify (in a virtual and fictional way) every standard example left
