Can this be repaired?

Just read this post Will, and hope everything is on track. I'm glad you decided to have a go at repairing it rather than letting the car go to that big scrapyard in the sky. I couldn't even contemplate giving up a car after 33 years in the family, it would be like losing someone close to you.

Keep up the good work :D

Yeah Gaz, that's the main reason i've decided to have a go. The thought of losing the car is too much to bear!
Rather than trying to tackle all the welding at once i'm doing some other little jobs that need doing to break things up a bit. This is turning into something that should maybe be moved to the projects page. Over the past few days i've benn repairing and recolouring a leather interior i picked up recently. It was a mixture of black front and red back seats, plus I needed to do the door cards and other trim. All of the seats needed a few stitches and some leather repair here and there. So I bought an extra large kit from furniture clinic which has left me with some extra colourant in case I need to redo anything at a later date? (hopefully not though )

Here are the seats after I got them, albeit with a damn good clean

Sorry, I didn't take any photos of the process involved. I was too busy just 'getting stuck in', but here they are after their repair and recolour

Plus while I was buying steel for the body repairs I also bought a sheet to reskin a rear silencer I acquired from one of the other forum members (Thanks Tom). I thought I'd tart it up a bit aswell by adding a stainless end pipe :D , while I was on I gave it a good few coats of VHT paint

Seats and silencer looks great, well done.

Thanks :) . The seats took a good few days from start to finish and I'm really happy with the results. Of course, the real test will be when it's fitted and I sart using them.

Considering the quality of work you are doing, I am surprised you were worried about the welding.

It's looking just great, nice one 8)

Thanks Richard. I must confess, I worked as a welder fabricator when I first left school. However, all the work we did was with heavy gauge steel. This type of thing (car bodywork) is completely new to me, hence why I was worried. Plus it's been about 17 years since I last picked up a mig in anger

Cheers Gareth. The seats are series 1 1/2 (luckily) with the inertia reel seat belt cutouts. I love boxpleat but the flatpleat has really grown on me a lot since I got them. I really like the simple and classy design of the flatpleat :) .

I've also started on the colour change, just to give myself something to look forward to  .

..and picked myself up a set of wolfrace slots from ebay, which I've always wanted. Not sure about the Hammerite 'hammered' finish though??

Nice bit of welding.

Wolfies are something I would like, they look fantastic.

Yep, I was a kid in the 70's so remember seeing them a lot back then. Always loved them, not sure they're classy enough for a P6 but what the heck I've always wanted some

Yeah! I've seen that car at the Beamish Rally, and you're right, they do look great on a P6! :D

Yes keep up the good work Will. Things starting to come together nicely Good Job, that TLC does spread once you start

Your seats look really good Will. I've got a furniture clinic set for restoring my buckskin interior. I'm only half way through, but I'm really pleased with how it's looking so far. If I can achieve the same standard as you, I'll be very happy. Glad to see you've been able to repair the rear silencer, looks very smart with it's stainless trim.

Thanks Guy, the old tlc does seem to be working!
Next major job is the welding on the passenger side bulkhead area, but the suspension needs to come off for that. Hopefully if the weather stays fine this coming weekend I'll get that sorted.
Tom, I've been well impressed with the furniture clinic kits. It's a bit of a long process but worth it. I bought the extra large kit to recolour the door cards and all other trim as well. The only trouble I've had was running out of propellant but I even used the kit to tidy up my steering wheel..

I was thinking, maybe these kits could be used to colour match a leather trimmed wheel to the interior? Not sure how it would look and If it would last, but I'd like to see it done :D

Looking at those two photos together there doesn't seem to be much difference  . Believe me there is
