Car SOS National Geographic TV

Well, I haven't seen this yet, and I'm not likely to as I can't get National Geographic TV, but I'm hoping its at least a little better than Channel 5's recent offering... I mean how bad can it be with Fuzz Townsend from Practically Carsick magazine in it...?

Car SOS

I watched this the other night, they retsored a Fiat 850 Spider and did a very nice looking proper resto on it. Actually, I thought Fuzz came across quite well. His co-presenter bloke (Tim?) came across as a bit of moaner - maybe that was all just part of the TV "real-life" drama? The format of the show (at least the episode I saw) was a bit like Wheeler Dealers where Fuzz is like Ed China and does most of the oily bits and the other bloke (think Mike Brewer with humor removed) went off and got the parts. At least there was no over the top pantomime drama with lots of shouting, swearing and everyone falling out  .

The disappointing thing for me was that, like a lot of these classic car shows (especially the US ones), they kept focusing a lot on the human element and didn't go into too much technical detail (maybe the producers think this is the best format to get the viewing figures?).

I liked it. Unusual car too.

And they're doing a P6 later in the series. Makes a nice change as Wheeler Dealers has never done a Rover.

I agree, this are a pleasant change from all the usual rubbish but I wish these program's would spend less time showing you where they get the parts from and a bit more detail on what they are doing with the car, but in all in all it looked like they did a proper job and I liked the last minute roadside tinkering to get it running :)

I'm glad there is a P6 being featured, about time our cars got some limelight instead of the usual lot, although I will admit I have never seen a Fiat 850 Spider

HI, these sort of programs usually pick 'mainstream' classic cars that are well catered for
like Mini,s MGB,s Beetle,s which makes progress more predictable and not having to find
say second gear cluster for a '55 Goggomobil. I can't get Nat Geo so I will have to wait till
it comes to Terrestrial or some one puts it on Youtube.

Took me a while to place the tall chap Tim, now he's had a shave and a haircut (5th gear) and thought it was 'ok' but the usual problems from being in the trade got on my wick.

As it's for entertainment, the usual dramas happened, parts not sourcable, lets fly round the world and collect them personally rather than use post :| Then we'll pretend we don't know what we're doing and have a last minute breakdown at the big unveiling, which actually revealed a very used looking air filter after such a restoration and a fault that shouldn't have occurred
Being a painter, there was a panel off colour too, strange after a full repaint.

One of the better shows but I've had a conversation with a production manager only two weeks ago about filming at our workshop for another show and we expressed the very same concerns.

I'll still watch the odd one mind, as it's my hobby as well as my living :)

They repeated Car SOS last night and I thought it was utter cr@p . Fuzz Townsend a "master mechanic" Never ...
He's doing a nice bit of advertising for that classic car business he bought into though

Just watched this tonight and there is a purple P6 FTW253L on the opening credits and I'm sure Mark Gray (with trademark cap) is the pilot.

IIRC Angie's dad has a nice purple 3500; he came up to Didsbury show last year in it. I wonder if Mark has done a piece for the show ? I believe they are doing a P6 later in the series.

Last night was about a Willys Jeep and I have to say noy quite as cr*p as the first show
It's still a very poor copy of the idea behind "Overhauling"

I quite enjoyed the programme, ok we know they all have the last minute hitch, always a bit going on between the presenters but that's show biz as they say. "Overhaulin" they take the car and always mod it up, powerful engine, big blindly wheels, modern paint job etc. At least these guys tried to get it original. Roll on the P6 episode.

currently watching the anglia episode, is it sad that i was really angry at the "anglia enthusiats" statement that it was fitted with a 711M 3 bearing crank, i hope the 711M ford block doesnt have only 3 bearings or ive been fitting two extra caps to all the race engines ive built!!!

I can cope with Fuzz but that tim is a mike brewer style ***head!

Sort-of off the topic... who the heck is that Fuzz guy?

He's a Practical Classics contributor, who also runs his own restoration business. I understand that he's a drummer too.

I think currently with the group The Wonder Stuff.

Think next weeks episode is a P6 . The opening shots include a P6 which belongs to Angie Grays Dad. Driving the car is Mark Gray. Think he did a bit on he P6 in the show as well. March 14th it's on .

At least they've done one car north of the M40 then. I haven't seen them come any further north than Oxford so far

Mind, it's grim up North - constant blizzards, all Labour councils and no proper roads  .
