"Did Mods own/drive cars ?"

Errrrm, I don't know about 60's mods but 90's ones, yes.
I was and had a mini. My mate had a VX4/90 we also had scooters, one of our lot had a loverly HA van painted with a union jack and numerous roundels. There was always some one around at the rallies with a big van - for breakdowns on runs see?
Ill post up a picture of my gear knob on the rover for you..... Its predictable 8)

Not the original early 1960's Mods, no, to the best of my knowledge.

Yes to late 1970's early 1980's revivalists. One of the main players in Guildford had a MGB GT, which worked well, especially when we all crammed into it to get a lift back after a Woodenbridge Soul Night.

'Merton' Mick Talbot had a Mk. 1 Cortina:

My Rover 2000 was built as they cleared up after the fighting on the beaches (1st September 1964), and does have Mod credibility, so I'm advised by the Taste Police (e.g. my parka clad ex, bless her).

There was quite a good documentary on TV not long ago about MODs & Rockers. One thing I remember one of the old original 60s MODs saying was that they only used to wear parkas over their trendy suits to keep their posh clothes clean. However, over time, the parks became part of the standard MOD uniform. I would guess that most 1960s MODs didn't have cars. Surely back then, young working class lads could only afford a bike or scooter for transport?

Bit odd to think that a lot of original 60s MODs will be be pensioners now :!:

I was never much into the Mod scene, but I did ride a scooter - I always had a car, and a motorcycle as back up to my Vespa.A few pics from a local scooter run,Long Beach, California Thanksgiving 2009My scoot

Nice Scoot SoCal. Didn't know you were a MOD! I guess California is a more appropriate place than UK in terms of weather for scooter riding (or doing just about anything outside for that matter).
I was wondering if some original MODs from the 60's might now be more interested in a different kind of scooter:- :D

Little bit off topic, but I feel sorry for the kids nowadays as far as music is concerned, think we were spoiled in the 70's and 80's. real music and real performers.

Oh yes, Agadoo, the Birdy Song, Rene and Renata, Gary Glitter, bloody spoiled we were

John.

There's always good and bad music... 80s was full of mass produced stock aitken and waterman, and there's plenty of mass produced rubbish in the 60s and 70s too. In my mind the only 2 true periods the record industry didnt keep up were the late 60s/early 70s blues/rock/prog explosion, and the late 70s with punk and electronica. Aside from that i dont think music today is any better or worse than any time i could pinpoint?
