Occie currently runs Pertronix Igniter ignition retaining the standard ballast coil set up. The Pertronix module has a separate 12V feed, and the RVI tacho works OK as before conversion.

It's been on my mind for a long while to replace the original distributor, so before the car goes to the rolling road session in May I'm going to change to >this set up< as a few others, such as codekiddie and 1396midget (I believe) have done. The 2 leads from the module nominally connect to the coil + and - LT terminals.

My only concern is how to wire in the tacho and whether it's likely to work after fitting the kit. I've seen threads on here, notably from codekiddie, regarding conversion from RVI to RVC...which zoom a little over my head at the moment!

This is the original ballast set up: - 22 = Distributor, 37 = Tacho, 44 = Coil, 45 = Ballast Resistor

I've emailed Simon and am waiting for an answer, but hopefully someone here will have more specific info.

I wonder how reliable the replacement distributors for the Lucas 35D8 are? In terms of wear, the original Lucas 35D8 suffered more so that the later Lucas distributors as fitted to the Rover V8 engine, such as the 35DE8 etc, but will the modern replacements fair any better?

Ron.

123 distributor, no moving parts other than the shaft and eternally tuneable through a laptop. Expensive but a brilliant bit of kit.

Mine's done about 8000 miles now - It's been fine apart from that one rotor arm wrecking the cap. I had mixed and matched bits though so that was probably my own fault.

I'm not convinced about 'certain' aftermarket distributors that replace the original Lucas items myself. I have had a replacement aftermarket distributor from one of the "low cost suppliers" with great disappointment indeed. But yet some people on here have tried 'certain' aftermarket distributors with great success.

I'd recommend a standard Lucas distributor with a quality ignition module. Distributor Doctor will refurbish your old Lucas distributor to a very high standard. I believe he still has some new-old-stock items as well.
