engine bay

Today i finished the other air intake elbow.
Plenty of time spent removing casting marks, air pocket pitting, and reshaping in general before the polishing stages commenced.
I have begun work on the carb to elbow adaptor pieces, and the manifold itself.
Next on the list is painting the rocker covers.

New numberplates arrived today too, very good quality £22 pair delivered from an ebay seller :D

Cor blimey! I have to agree, that looks really smart. Would you care to repeat that painstaking polishing job for me? I'd gladly send you a pair of elbows and elbow-to-carb adaptors for the mirror polish treatment, along with a pair of SU dashpots. It would all depend on what you charge for your labour? :?:

Very nice job on those elbows Jim. :)

Is the rear number plate the correct size for the holder?

Gee Jim they do look very nicely polished! They work as a mirror too as both you and your library are in the picture..

Ron.

Thanks everyone, they sure take time and effort but to me are adding so much value to the car.
Very satisfying work too.
Guy, the numberplates are probably too short for the rear plinth, but i'm not using it as i'm dropping the numberplate below the bumper.
I will check later for you though.
Mr Task, I'll have to think about it. Potentially yes, but i'd need to know what condition the parts are currently in etc..
It's quite a drawn out process to reach that finish, so would be a fair few hours involved! :)

I'm also experimenting with smoothing the inside of the elbows as the cast surface is very rough and uneven.
I'm thinking it might affect airflow to the carbs..

Ok thought they might be standard size, like to see a pic of them in situ under the bumper,
thanks Jim

I would not call it a fettish just don't like the look of standard size plates on the plinth  Just doesn't look right to me
So get yours sorted

Guy, they're definitely too short for the plinth, 52cm.
I haven't secured it to the rear valance yet, but here's an idea.
I'm using two numberplate bolt led lamps for plate illumination- wired one up for a quick photo too :)

The change is forcing me to take care of my bootlid paint, worst part of the car i think- and i dislike the black stonechip on the lower part of the valance.
Is this standard from the factory?
A good chance to replace old bolts with stainless too, bumper especially was a pain in the rear to remove
Jim

Hi Jim, as far as I know the rear valance left factory body coloured, someone must have black stonechipped it.
How are you going to keep the box's there when you drive off
Seriously looks ok under the bumper but you will need to check the light on the plate with the other one connected to make sure its sufficiant :)

I don't have any doubt in the led lamps being enough light.
It looked very different in person, camera phone clearly didn't do it justice.
I'll get a better pic later when it's all secured and wired up :)

It looks like you might have fun driving it in and out through that garage door.

The elbows look good.

Yes I'm very lucky to have use of this workshop/garage.
It did take a lot of clearing out, the whole space looked like the area to the right of the car not that long ago

Sorry Luke, i seem to have completely taken over your thread here!
I will definitely start a project page for my car..soon..honest
But for now here's the first stage of my rocker cover refurbishment

Hopefully tomorrow night i'll be able to post pics of the completed painted and polished articles :D
Also degreasing 40 years of grime from the rest of the engine bay
Jim

Well here's the finished articles in satin black.
I used VHT high temp satin engine enamel, the aerosol sprays really nicely- good nozzle
