engine bay

They look nice and freesh Jim, I redone my rocker covers in a similar syle but in blue last year. It does add some class me thinks

Thanks, will post another pic when all newly painted and polished parts are reassembled :D
I'm running 205/60 on the vitesse rims

Do you lacquer the rocker covers to keep the polished parts from oxidising ?

I'm a glutton for punishment Dave so I don't lacquer mine, just give the shiney bits a wipe every couple of weeks and a good polish up every couple months gives me an excuse to spend some time with the car

I also had 205 on mine Jim but when I needed to change the tyres went for 195 as I dont have power steering and wow what a difference so much lighter :)

Guy, i have power steering on mine and really like the feel with the 205s, huge improvement over stock wheels and tyres 8)
I believe lacquering over highly polished metals can be a recipe for disaster unless done really well.
If you trap the slightest bit of moisture it'll corrode from beneath, meaning rubbing the whole thing down again and re-polishing!
I use a metal polish with wax to finish, and just keep everything polished.
It's not a big deal maintenance-wise if you ask me :D

Quite agree with all the above, Its all part of the fun of ownership and pride in the detail

So here's mine now i've put it all back together.
The carb adaptors have been smoothed and sanded, next to be polished.
Only one dashpot so far has been polished, and you can just about see where i've started polishing the manifold.
The block will be chevy red when i get the chance to remove the engine, along with body coloured engine bay walls and hidden cables if possible.
I will probably polish the alternator but am considering an uprated GM chrome one..
Then its begging for red magnecors 8)

Anyway enough from me on this thread, i'm starting one for my car :D

Body colour engine walls ? Need to think about that

Seems like a great idea, until you do it  Then you realise that it really doesn't suit the car.

Richard

It's the same old "what your brain expects to see" thing isn't it, any other car would be fine, but a P6 has a black engine bay, and try telling your brain otherwise !

Best just paint the car black to match the bay :D

How do you spray the rockers like that, keeping the stripes chromed, did see a post with Mr Q saying how he done his but cant find it. Looks really smart

Prep and spray them then just sand down the raised strips using 800 grit work your say up to 2000 then polish with metal polish for a mirror shine

Its that easy Mick.

The last time I did it I flatted in between the primer and colour as well, that way you don't
get the primer edge.

Colin

I rubbed them down first with a rough wet n dry, then finer and finer until I got a nice polished look to the top of the ribs. Then painted them with engine enamel (no primer required), and just waited until they got tacky and wiped the bits I wanted unpainted with a cloth damp with thinners. Three coats of enamel did the trick.

Came up a treat :)

Richard

I did pretty much the same as Richard, but i highly polished the ribs after sanding with buffing compounds.
The paint obviously has a real hard time sticking to this surface, so is easily removed whilst the remainder is drying :)
Depends what look you really want.
I think they would work equally well with a wrinkle finish paint and dull sanded ribs, which i nearly did.
A little like this

I like your big air filters 8) they really fit well and look good too. But, has your brake fluid level dropped down a bit? Or do you keep it at sort of half way? Sorry for being nosey, but I thought you may have not noticed it

A white transmission dip stick handle,..that is the first one of those that I have seen, usually they are red. If I recall correctly, Harvey said that the very early transmissions had such painted handles.

What is the gold anodised dome Rob sitting on your n/s inner guard?

Ron.
