FM conversion

Can't justify £450 quid though , or can i :? :D

I certainly couldn't. You can pick old radio/cassette units (even CD's) for a song now or even free (I've had them given to me), have them modded for an MP3 & they'll always look better than the retro-look jobs which to me at least, seem to be neither fish nor fowl in appearance.

I've got an aldi stereo in sleipnir. Does the job well... not the most period looking thing but I'm not too bothered about that. I dont think hiding things in the glovebox works really on the p6 though.

I've converted my original Radiomobile (with (I believe) original front and rear mono speakers with f/r fader) to run an aux input.

I'll give it a go on my way home this evening with my phone, which runs as an FM radio using the headphone lead as aerial.

I've not tried the two together before as I've always got a special 'Rover music' playlist with suitable songs on it.. :D

Well, I've just got back from a drive. As predicted by others above, the radio worked OK when static, with the phone on the dash top. However, as soon as I turned a corner, the reception became terrible. It varied a lot depending on the direction the car was facing. I tried 2 different stations with similar results, but only managed to go a mile or two before having to switch back to my 'Rover' MP3 playlist.

I didn't seem to be getting any additional 'noise' from the engine running.

I suspect that shows you'll need an FM radio with a seperate aerial or one that allows you to use your existing one.

A friend of mine did have a Blaupunkt FM-addon box which plugged into the DIN socket on a Blaupunkt radio. No idea how well that worked. :)

Oh well , that's the definitive answer then , thanks for trying . looking like a retro sound job for Christmas then . At least i know it will do the job :D

Been browsing ebay and keep coming back to this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Retro-Sound-J ... 2a2a855cb0

I like the look and it appears to have all i want . So few questions , Yeah i know i could email the seller , but they'd just tell me what i wanted to hear .
* It says it has 4 times speaker outlets ( i think ) But i can just use two right ?
* Says something about power antenna , can i just use my original roof ariel ?
* Says US and Euro spec tuner , So that'll work in good old Blighty ?
* Lastly , any problems associated with buying from the US of A ? Only that i never have .

Ps They're a fair bit cheaper from here even considering postage !

* Says US and Euro spec tuner , So that'll work in good old Blighty ? AFAIK FM is the same everywhere
* Lastly , any problems associated with buying from the US of A ? Only that i never have . Listen to what John says above

Hi, Stina. It worked for me, basically customs value is £159.50 (which is product + postage + insurance
which I guessed at 10 dollars) duty is 14%, VAT is 20%. However product value is below £135 so nil duty.
VAT is 31.90 payable to customs, total landed cost £191.41

if the seller does the customs declaration for you it works out cheaper, but they have to pay the duty in advance if i remember correctly. From experience while far east sellers are usually amenable to this often american sellers seem to refuse.

O.k guys thanks for all the replies and ideas . It looks like it's just as cheap and less hassle to buy one from one of the few companies over here by the time you factor everything in . Plus you can speak to a humanoid before committing :D Been round and round with this one haven't i , who says Women are indecisive ( or who dares  )

Stina, check there are no customs/tax duties to be paid on import as the courier will charge a handling charge on top.......

John.

Hi John , i hear what your saying , but i can't make that calculator work , any one know how else i can find out ? :D

Stina,

These stock the same set - perhaps give these UK based organisations a check out instead.

I am tempted by the Retrosounds Model 2 radio as this can be made to look similar to the old Radiomobile unit by careful selection of fascia (black) and knobs (large black with chrome inserts) and also has Bluetooth (allowing hands free calls). I wonder how generous Santa is feeling this year?

Hi yeah it was your first post that got me looking . I fancy the pioneer pod speakers from one company and the model two from the other . As you i'm relying on the bearded one in the red outfit now

Hi all .
When i come to wire in my new stereo i'm going to need a permanent live as well as the ignition switched live . The ignition switched one is easy , the one feeding the radiomibile at the moment , but can someone advise where to take the permanent live feed from , as in which wire from the fuse box if poss please ?
