Hi
hope some one can help
ive been sorting lights today I’ve managed to sort the indicators, one reversing light
brake lights, interior light, map light and parking light
however the headlights, I’ve no idea what’s going on,
as I have no idea what should light and when !
it appears the outer work correctly they come on and dip when the switch is operated , however the inners only come on when the lever is pulled to flash
I’m having to guess this Is incorrect
hopefully some helpful person can give me the correct sequence TIA
regards Paul

The inners should come on with both flash and high beams on. They are meant to supplement the high beams.

Your headlamp flash operates one fuse, and your dip switch operates another. They are next to each other and joined by the brass clip, the outer bit of which forms one side of the fuse holder - if that makes sense.

If that clip is not making a good contact with either fuse top, you will end up with the issue you have.

So inners are just a single filament
outers are on there own for dip
then high beam outers with the inners ??

Once you have all the headlights working as intended, fit relays on them, to reduce the loads on the fusebox. I intercepted the main feed from the shunt to the light switch , ran it out to a hot point near the offside lights via a 40A breaker, then fed relays from there. Note from Quattro's diagram that if fuse 20-21 is missing, 22-23 will not see any power. This is true in a couple of other positions IIRC. Can be fixed with clips like these:-
FUSE BOX FUSE CLIP REPAIR STAINLESS STEEL - Rover P6 Parts supplied by Mark & Angie Gray
Make your own with 1/32" piano wire (hobby shop) and decent pair of needle nose pliers.

Hi what a Knowledgeable lot !
all now correct thanks very much, all to do with a dirty fuse.
i do have a lot of relays and the inner headlamps say h4 on them so im wondering if relays have been fitted.
ill save that for next week
im not sure hoping one of you guys once again can help should headlights come on when fog lights selected ?
TIA Regards Paul

The headlights should go out when the foglights are switched on. Foglights are more effective than heads because they are lower and light up the road better rather than being refracted by the mist/fog into just a sheet of white light.
