Hi everyone,

I have recently discovered this forum and have found it a very informative and interesting place. I don't have a p6 at the moment but have owned a few in the past and have had thoughts on getting myself one as a daily driver again.

I sold my last one about twenty years ago and have fond memories of the luxury leather seats, cool strip speedo and fantastic ride they gave. I was a member of the p6 owners club and attended a few of the rallies in Sussex and Kent at the time.

Sadly the p6 doesn't appear to be a familar site on our roads today, I guess the dreaded rust has taken it's toll! I have had a look on the DVLA website to see if my old cars are still alive but they were last taxed around 1999.

I found a few old photos of my cars today : XJG 848J was a Cameron Green 2000 automatic, UHK 959K was a Monza Red 2000 manual, and LDV 662F was a Zircon Blue 2000TC which interestingly had the series 2 chrome side strip down the side. All were great cars to drive although I did find the automatic a tad sluggish.

Anyway I thought I'd share the photos with you and who knows maybe I'll get myself another p6!

welcome torinouk, like yourself, I used to own one way back when. I recently bought a Monza Red 3500S as a daily driver,& to improve gradually. I haven't done much improvement yet, but I have driven it most days & it never fails to put a smile on my face, so go ahead, you won't regret it!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Great photos of your previous P6s, and I'm sure you'll have another one at some point!

Welcome to the forum torinouk and I also hope you return to ownership and p6 enjoyment soon too 8)

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Well after much trawling of the internet I have finally put a deposit down on a series 2 2000sc. Looking forward to picking it up and using it as my daily driver. 8)

Did you live in Wallington about 20 years ago ? I remember someone into P6's who had a Torino

No that's not me. I use the Torino username as I'm a fan of Starsky & Hutch and American musclecars. My weekend toy is a '73 Camaro. 8)

I picked up my '73 2000 a couple of weeks ago and have covered about 250 miles in it so far. All seems well and good but I have a couple of minor queries which some of you may be able to help me with.

Under the bonnet there is what looks like a piece of sound deadening between the engine and heater box. Mine looks rather worse for wear and I have just removed it as it was slipping downwards. Is this just sound deadening or also some sort of heat sheilding?

I have had to overhaul the quarter light mechanism on the front passenger side as it was stuck solid. I have managed to free it off but have noticed that the rubber that holds the glass to the quarter light frame has perished. Anyone know if this rubber is still available?

Thanks

Glad to hear your enjoying your P6 try Winns International for the quarter light rubber or may be Mark Gray may be able to help not sure on the quality as I haven't had to replace mine as for the sound deadening think most have seen better days...

Thanks for the advice V8guy. I'm going to be making a trip up to Winns shortly.

Here is a picture of the car

:) Well done. You certainly didn't hang about for too long after your first post before getting a P6. The paintwork looks great. Scarab Blue I think which isn't too far off the colour of your old blue 2000TC. I'm guessing your car has either had a respray or has been exceptionally well cared for?

Thanks for the comments. The colour is Corsica blue, although it looks a bit like Scarab in the photo! It was resprayed sometime in the 90's and it must have been a good job because it still shines up well now. There are a few micro blisters appearing on the alloy panels but nothing too bad. The only gripe I have with the bodywork is when they did the respray they mounted the 2000 badges on the front wings in the wrong place!

I changed the oil and filter yesterday along with checking and topping up the De-dion and final drive. It gave me a good chance to have a proper look at the underside whilst on the ramps and I am well pleased with how solid and sound it looks under there. It's certainly got the best base unit I've ever owned.
