Internal Door Handle variants

bit of knowledge needed please. I have a P6 project,( R Reg) and owned 2 others in the past, In regard to the inside door handles as per photo, i had assumed the all metal type were the series 1's and plastic trimmed type were the series 2's. But this rover I have has an all metal design that i have not seen before, (top handle in photo) it also utilises a chromed steel inner ring instead of plastic one and is fitted onto a splined instead of a square drive (different inner assemble as well with splined fitted). But this is only on the front doors and not the rear! is this correct?

Which model is it , SC,TC or V8?

I *think* that the type shown at the 'top' of your photo is the std. one for the cars with the longer armrests, ie Series 2 TCs and V8s. The SCs with the Series 1 original type of short armrest had 'plastic' handles, no doubt a safety measure as the longer armrest protected the metal handle, but that's a guess. I can't comment on the splines.

The bottom one matches the ones on my '65 SC and '68 TC. My '68 has black plastic rings under the handles and the '65 has chrome metal rings.

As far as the chrome vs black rings, my understanding is the 65 up to early 66 cars had the chrome, and the black rings started in 66 through the rest of Series 1 production.

Hi Bottom design is what our 1970 series 1 V8 has.
