I have been busy over last week or two and have made good use of the spell of really nice hot/dry weather.

BTW, can anyone please tell me what is the circular bit near the outer of the tube for :?:
This is the part at the top/front in the picture. It has a small hole possibly with remnants of a thread in it?).

JVY and PAE have very similar rot problems it seems. Check the top of the inner wheel arch carefully on that basis!

Rich

Thanks Rich. I think it seemed OK but shall have a closer look tomorrow (assuming I'm allowed out to play by SHMBO  ).
Now you've got me worried. Seriously, it's good to know that someone like you who has been there is keeping an eye on what I'm up to - thanks.

Obviously I hope you don't have that problem to deal with but as it doesn't look quite so far gone you might get away with it. I reckon that no mot tester will ever catch the top of the wheel arch so might be one to save for when you have an mot

:| :| :| I have JVY booked in for an MOT tomorrow.

A quick summary of the final few jobs completed:-

Welding
I recently finished the welding. The last bit was horrible as I initially thought only the the lower A-post, floor & splash panel corner on the driver's side needed repaired. After putting in new metal around here and sorting ot he jacking tube pictured above, I thought, "right, that's me done". One last job was to give the outer sill a quick wire brush and put on some paint as it looked like it had a bit of surface rust. You can probably guess what's coming next. Sure enough, I found a hole in the outer sill at the bottom of the B&C posts and at the D post   . So it cost me bot of extra time sorting that out. I found that the inner & outer sills had been previously replace and although it looks like a good job was done, I reckon the orignal metal that was left around the bottom of the B/C and D posts had just rotted away in the intervening period since.

Driver's Door Lock Puzzle
When I was doing above welding, I had taken off the front wing and driver's door. On putting things back together, the driver's door was shutting kind of OK but tending to jam when I tried to open it. I decided that I must have altered the height of the door when I had refitted it & all I would have to do would be to follow the Haynes book procedure for adjusting the door. After mucking about for hours, I got nowhere and eventually realised that the little 3-pronged rotating bolt on the door lock (the bit that engages with the striker plate on the B-post) wasn't quite rotating enough to stop it catching in the striker plate when I tried to open the door. This all puzzled me as it was working fine before I removed the door  . So. I had to take the driver's door apart to remove the lock assembly. Only when I took it over to the bench to marvel at the complexity of the thing did a large self-tapping screw fall out. I reckon it must have been rolling about inside the door and fell into the lock when I was lifting/tilting the door on/off  . After a quick clean and regrease (and more cursing fitting the door all back together), it works better than ever :) .

Front N/S Brake
I found the front NS caliper was binding a bit, so I ordered up a the parts to recon the caliper from WINS plus a new flexi-hose. Having phoned WINS on Monday afternoon, the parts were delivered the following morning which was much appreciated - thanks WINS and Royal Mail! Working till late last night, I got the caliper put back together, fitted & bled. It now works a treat :)

So, with all June 2011 MOT fails hopefully sorted and all the advisories hopefully sorted, she goes for her MOT tomorrow. It's big day for JVY & I'm already getting nervous..........................................

:D :D :D :D :D 8) 8) 8) 8)
Left JVY at the garage this morning on way to work.
I just got a text from the garage saying that she passed her MOT :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks. I am well chuffed. All I need to do now is get some road tax as JVY has been SORN'd since last year. Unfortunately, I am stuck at work with no hope of getting to the garage to pick up the certificate before the post office closes. Might have to wait till tomorrow before I can sort it out :( .

Only other problem is that SWMBO will now be drawing up a list of jobs for me to do now that I'm not spending my free time mucking about with the car  . She may even be writing up a list on the back of the MOT certificate as I type this :?:

Excellent news on the MOT, the problem of household DIY now you have finished JVY is easily solved, buy another distressed P6.....

John.
