Re: Picking up my 2nd P6 this weekend!

That looks absolutely gorgeous, Dave! It makes me wish that the previous owner had left my car white! I look forward to seeing it at some shows! :D

Re: Picking up my 2nd P6 this weekend!

Nice one Dave... :D

I noticed the fuel tank capacity is 55 litres. Was that the same for all the 4 cylinder models?

How will you divide your time between your two Rovers now as far as choosing which one to drive?

Ron.

Re: Picking up my 2nd P6 this weekend!

The more I see the simplicity of the original Bache interior design of the S1, the more I like it. I didn't use to but I still love the round clock dash too. The S2 SC cars dash, with it's mixture of the two designs, I'm not such a fan of. The one green switch always looks out of place to me mixed in with the original items, as does the hazard switch.
Looks like a very nice car.

Re: Picking up my 2nd P6 this weekend!

That looks a lovely motor Dave , now the question is how do you get both of them to Errol?

The V8 is more than able to satisfy the petrolhead in me Adam :D

She's certainly a 1966 built car Dave....I think we worked it out to be July. when we checked it out she's originally one of the last with Dunlop brakes when new. The black bezel on the clock is always a good indicator of a 1966 car.

She's beautiful. Well done mate. I serious suspect the hand of Clive Annable has been across this car. It looks like one of his paint jobs :D

Nick

That's interesting. I haven't got a Heritage certificate so all I have to go on is an report and valuation from the 90s that said the car was '65 built. Even better that she's '66 built too :D

Clive has certainly done some work on her as I have a bill for conversion from Dunlop to Girling brakes all round with his name on it.

Oooh that's a lovely thing Dave, and it looks like it doesn't need the attention of your power buffer either.

Absolutely not John. There are a couple of minor blemishes on the bonnet that I'll get seen too soon but overall the paint is excellent.

Bet you're chuffed with that.

Absolutely :D

Hi Ron, the V8 will remain my daily driver but the white car will certainly come out most weekends.

I'm sure I'll figure something out Tam

Re: Picking up my 2nd P6 this weekend!

Fantastic looking car Dave!! Take my advice though and try to avoid adding a third  . Enjoy!
Dave.

Re: Picking up my 2nd P6 this weekend!

PERFIK!!

Really pleased to see an S1 in that good a nick and a lovely spec too.

There's a niggling memory at the back of the brain that says a dashboard mat wasn't part of the spec at that date. Perhaps Nick knows? What a shame it's been converted to Girling brakes. That's the very first thing I'd do, convert it back to Dunlops!

Well done and look forward to seeing it!

Chris

Dave I'm sure she's a mid-1966 car. Send me the chassis number on a PM and I'll give you the fully monty later on. I did speak to Mark about the car when he looked her over for you but didn't write down the number then. I think she was built and registered in quick succession, my money's on July 1966.

Judging by the very creamy paintwork I suspect Clive may have painted her to. He'll remember, and have photos, if he did.

Cheers
Nick

Correct Chris. It's 1967 IIRC without trying to find it in the service newsletters.

Re: Picking up my 2nd P6 this weekend!

Wow, you've got to love a really clean S1 like that, just lovely.

Now all it needs is lowering and some big alloys..... Nah only kidding !

Correct Chris. It's 1967 IIRC without trying to find it in the service newsletters.

Was it an optional extra though? I'll have a look in the extras booklet when I get home. As much as I'd like to keep the spec as original as possible it's a bit annoying having things fly across the dash every time I go round a corner

Is there really that much of a difference, performance wise, between the 2 systems?

Re: Picking up my 2nd P6 this weekend!

Nice one Dave, I really like that. Whether you're looking for a project or not it pays to buy the best one you can find. It will be interesting to read about how you get on with it over the next few months and how the driving experience differs to your V8.

Looking closely at the engine bay picture I'm not sure this car's had the full treatment from Clive Annable because you can still see the welded manufacturing seam on the inside edge of the wing panel and Clive said he always removes those as a matter of course. Still looks nice though.

Re: Picking up my 2nd P6 this weekend!

Apparently the Dunlops are noticeably better. At the time, I wasn't sufficiently car educated to apreciate the difference. Dunlop fronts were certainly very prone to squealing - cured at the time by a high speed emergency application. I ssupect with modern pads there'd be no problem. The holy grail is reckoned to be Dunlop front and back with a Girling servo! Certainly Dunlop rears are much easier to look after in today's world. At one time there was a fashion for converting to Girling, I suspect because it was perceived as being more modern and also because people hadn't discovered the commonality at the rear with Jag E Type, Girling bits were then common too.

Paul

It's early days yet and the car does need a good service but it struggled to maintain speed in top gear up some of the long inclines on the A7 home. The V8 just eats those up :D In terms of comfort it rides and handles very well. There's a slight tendency to oversteer a bit in tight bends but it's progressive so easily managed. It doesn't always start as easily as the V8, but again that will probably get sorted when I service it and figure out how much choke it needs etc ....and yes the choke control operates like it should which is brilliant, ie pull it out a touch for fast idle, pull and turn and it stays where you want it

Next thing to try out is the petrol reserve.......

The static seat belts are an adventure too..... quite disconcerting until you get used to how they work.

Nice one Dave! That's a lovely looking S1, and I like your new sig pic... Nice stable you've got there! 8)

Re: Picking up my 2nd P6 this weekend!

When i bought my january 67 2000,that never came with the mat on the dash either, wonder if this is what they came from the factory in 66 67 as my 2000 would have been built in 66 and registered 67

Re: Picking up my 2nd P6 this weekend!

That looks sweet! I love the interior :D
