My 2000SC Auto daily driver

Well, I've now had my 2000 for about 3 weeks and in that time I've done a lot of miles and have enjoyed it a great deal. My 2000 is my first car and the car that'll I'll be using on a daily basis for the foreseeable future so I thought it was worthy of a thread to keep you all updated as to its progress. Since getting the caliper replaced and getting the De Dion gaiter fitted I've done a few little jobs. Within a day of me getting it roadworthy it blew a sealed beam, and the other main lamp, a halogen conversion had a chip in its glass, so I decided to buy two new sealed beams which I fitted the day they arrived. At this point I discovered that some of the screws on the car had had their heads damaged and in some cases the wrong screws had been used, making this apparently simple job slightly more complicated than it needed to be. I've adjusted the steering wheel so it now sits horizontally when the wheels are straight as it should, I've fitted the thermostat for the Kenlowe so that it doesn't need to be switched on and off manually and I've had what little is left of the exhaust welded up.
I've now managed to arrange to get a new stainless system made and fitted locally, by a place called Top Gear in Dumfries, who will do it to original spec, fitted, for £350 which I thought was very reasonable. That's being fitted on Thursday morning.
Other than that most of the work on the car I've done has been cleaning. I washed and polished the car quite a few times already and it looks better for it. In terms of the interior I've been feeding the leather a bit and seems a bit softer, but it's still cracked, so I may recolour it at some point. Here are some photos of the car taken recently.

Great car you have there it's nice to know that there is one more p6 on the road as a daily driver with an owner that is prepared to put the hard graft in to keep his (or her) prize possesion in top running order.

Lovely car! I don't think that's Almond though, it looks a bit too 'buttery' (and it wasn't a series 1 colour). The series 1 cars had the rubber faced overriders available as optional extras. I'm not sure if you could just order a pair or if they came as a set of 4 but the front underriders were the standard fitting. If a set of 4 overriders were fitted, then the front underriders would have been removed.

That's handy to know for when I need a new exhaust for the V8 :) I'd be interested to hear your experience of this supplier once you've had the exhaust fitted. Car looks very nice, are you coming to Selkirk with it on Sunday?

I definitely won't be at Selkirk in the P6 as my exhaust hasn't been fitted yet, and it'll be Wednesday before this is done, not the fault of the exhaust fitter though. I'll let you know how the exhaust goes once it's fitted too. It's possible that if I don't go to the Rover rally at Holker Hall I may well go to Selkirk to have a look round. Never been to the Selkirk show before as far as I can remember.

Meanwhile, my radiator seems to be leaking quite badly around the top, and I fear that the reason for the fresh paint may be because there is filler in the top of the radiator. I'll see if there's anything I can do, and if not I'll buy a secondhand or reconditioned one, depending on how I feel financially after the exhaust has been fitted.

Over the past week or so I've spent a lot of my spare time cleaning the car to get it looking better. I've washed, polished and waxed the exterior several times now, and scrubbed the interior. As regards the interior I've scrubbed the headlining so it looks a lot cleaner and used Daisy all purpose cleaner, diltuted for this, I've wet vac'd the carpets and fed the leather seats every other day in an attempt to soften them up and get them looking better. The dash and vinyl parts have been cleaned too and then gone over with a plastic/rubber protectant, so it's getting there.

That's a very lovely looking car, and glad to hear it's a daily driver. I use mine every day too.

I'm going to be restoring my leather seats soon too, so will be posting with how I get on. Mine aren't cracked, but the colour has faded badly and is worn off in a lot of places so they'll need recoating.

I'll be very interested to hear and see how that goes! I'd like to recolour the seats in mine eventually as it would really lift the appearance of the interior.

I really do like the look of that. Have we asked you what colour it is yet? Yes yes, yellow, I know, but what shade? Or a special?

Can we persuade you to set sail for Rugeley on Sunday? I'm sure you'll be very welcome on the gate if I know Mark and Angie. You might even persuade Ian Wilson to bring you a new rad down and a few of the rest of us to change it for you!

Chris

Interior looks great!
Keep your eyes on the buy/sell section. Seats come up for sale every now and again. It looks like you may only need front(s) as the rear seats look in decent shape.
Enjoy your car.

I saw a late S2 3500S at Selkirk last weekend that was a similar colour to this and the under-bonnet sticker said it was turmeric. I thought turmeric was a bit more orangey than that. I'll post a picture for comparison when I get a chance.

Here's the turmeric car I saw

Which is a bit too yellowy

It's really quite a tricky colour to photograph totally accurately, but I know that it's not an original Rover colour unfortunately. I haven't been sent a paintcode yet, but I may have something with the right code that came with the car, I'll have a look later and let you know the code.

Today saw the Rover getting its new custom made stainless steel exhaust. Here are a few photos of the exhaust from underneath, I forgot to take one of the back box, but I'll take one tomorrow and post it. Other than that, there are a couple of other things I need to do; the radiator really needs replaced and I'm hoping to underseal the car as soon as I can too.

Nice job on the exhaust 8) ,...
If you have been losing coolant you might want to check the engine sideplates aswell,in the top pic there is a yellowish stain and rusty bolt head on the sump that indicate a leak,

Your car has caused a bit of a stir in my household, my youngest is currently restoring a 69 auto and wants to spray his car in the same colour
