My 2000SC Auto daily driver

Isn't it possible to get the car on your dad's name and insure it under his name? That's exactly what I do with all of my classics, because it's the only affordable way of doing it...

Really wouldn't want to see this go, my favourite car on this forum!

In the UK that's illegal. They call it "fronting", named drivers are generally only covered for occasional use, the main driver should be the main driver.

Also uk companies seem to have picked up on this and charge based on the highest risk named driver.

It can be rather difficult here as well, because most insurance companies don't want a 'higher risk' driver driving. But it's possible... :)

Too bad that won't work. :(

On our daughters car it got cheaper to add Mum on, as it lowers the risk with a named driver who's mature

Hope it all works out for the best Frazzle :)

well im really sad to hear you might have to sell your car, i ve enjoyed reading your postings and the changes you have made and all your efforts, it seems to be the trend these days that any enjoyment we have left in the UK is slowly disappearing by the day.
Its been nice knowing the younger drivers are considering the old classics and it seems to me that there in safe hands for the future, what a shame the greedy insurance companies are dont see it the same way.
i feel for you when i lost my business early 2008 the thing that was most upsetting was the idea that i might have to sell rosie, and when you ahve so much effort in as you have its a shame.
hope it works out for you

This is so true Marcus. Motorists in general just seem to be an easy target for government and insurance companies - the cash cow that just keeps giving :!: It is always sad when someone has to sell their classic but is seems especially worse when it is a younger person like Frazzle who is obviously an enthusiastic, careful and responsible owner.

yes thats true and its more a shame when the younger guys have to give up there classic, we need to keep the younger guys interested in the history of our once motoring industry, but it seems these days we cant see further than the end of our nose, and these guys are needed to keep the old cars alive and the skills to repair them, it will slowly all be lost im affraid, just like the industry im in slowly dieing away
its such a shame

An update:
The car is still here, and for the time being, will be staying. :D
On Monday, I shall be setting off for a trip to the Isle of Skye in it, going via Loch Lomond, and then North through Glencoe and so on. I will make the return journey on the Wednesday. It's a lot of miles in a couple of days, but I'm really looking forward to it! :D The Rover's running really well at the moment, and it'll be a great chance to give the car a really good run. Have no fear, there will be photos!

Me three. After all the trials and tribulations you've been through with it you deserve the enjoyment of using it.

Me four :)

How did you manage it in the end? Just paying the premium or did you find a way of getting the cost down a bit?

Rich

Great to hear you are keeping it - I am going to be travelling up through Loch Lomond, Glen Coe and then right up through the Great Glen to the Black Isle next month.

Fantastic scenery up there, and some great photo opportunities 8)

That's brilliant news Fraser. I don't want this post to end, it has been such an enjoyable, and of course informative read. :)

Of course, do enjoy your road trip, and I can't wait for the photos!!

Cheers, Adam.

:D :D Good news indeed. Hope your trip goes well and looking forward to the usual high standard pic's.

Me five!
Great news that it's staying. I've followed your posts before, and have always thought it was a beautiful car. I think we are roughly the same age and circumstances as well, so it's good to know you can keep it.
