Nearly had enough !

I’ve just about had enough of this bl***y p6
it just seems insistent that it goes for parts. Up to now it just chucks fluids out
the power steering pump chucks fluid out the carbs chuck petrol out
the pressure regulator came apart more petrol every where.
im sure this is to do with a previous idiot adding bits incorrectly as there’s no return pipe for fuel !
the steering pump reservoir has been moved, to accommodate a radiator expansion bottle, twin electric fans have been added
various warning lamps, a complicated alarm system, the petrol reserve tap was changed to an electric solenoid valve.
the alternator has something attached with two wire doesn’t appear to do anything
also some black cylindrical thing I think has something to do with emissions
if any one can give me any idea how to replace the fuel return I would find that really helpful or help identify the other parts
it would really help thanks paul

Stay the course. My car was a mess when I got it. So many badly performed ‘repairs’. It took a good few years before it even started to be something I’d expect to be reliable. Sometimes the best cars are the unmolested ones.

thanks sdibbers
I thought it looked a good one ‍♂️
They always do! You’ll be amazed what people will drive thinking it’s sorted and usable. The number of cars I’ve driven that look great but are barely roadworthy is scary.

And I got one !
live already taken out the app,it pins holding the front pads in
also adjusted the handbrake, during which noticed the near side rear disc is covered in oil
I’ve replaced all the bushes on the gear change, both flame traps and hoses, engine breather, speedo cable, refurbished the dash top and switch panel.
sorted and faulty rev counter, phew

Can't say anything useful about the first two mysterious black devices, but the third photo shows a temp sender for the electric fan controller. Looks as if you can change out the temp sender if it gives up the ghost and screw a replacement in. Better than a Revotec item where the sensor isn't replaceable when it dies. What happens if you unplug the juice to the other two gadgets, one at a time? If the car drives without them wired in, you could probably remove them! Keep throwing money at it, and fixing things, eventually it will put a big grin on your face!

Can I asked how you resolved the rev counter issue? I have one that does it's own thing.

Admittedly you do have to know when to call time, and perhaps move a project on that is not living up to expectations, but a P6 can be a lot of fun, and the right car is worth the effort. Crack on over winter, and if late spring does not deliver, get another.

Obviously it is a project car, not a sorted one, but i would take any day a project with some mechanical and electrical issues rather than a heap of rust.

The rev counter turned out to be completely incorrect, having had an electronic board connected, I think because electronic ignition had been fitted, I went back to a standard rev counter reconnected the wrong way which meant the car wouldn’t run, so swapped the wires then put a drop of clock oil on the spindle and it appears to have fixed it.

theses can be frustrating cars. especially when 'modified' paid far too much for my rover and spent literally a few grand sorting it out. new callipers. brake lines/hoses. all fluid hoses. thermostat. carpet and underlay. drivers quarter light replaced. door lock cover fixed. small weld on near side on floor hole. radio swap. master brake cylinder exchange. servo unit exchange. alternator exchange. now doing exchange radiator . heater rad already repaired and that just what I can think of at moment! however ,I find when driving and showing car off at meets it is in fact rewarding. its a case of looking at it long term and not trying to fix everything at once as too many chores will swamp us and make us think about throwing in the proverbial. you will get a lot of advise heer and do check out Facebook P6 goops too. update site now and again :) as we all liek to hear progress and see a few pics.
