Occie gets some new wheels!

Have the outer sills painted in the same new red, it'll look great!

I was just going to say that! I can't say I noticed that the wing bottoms weren't painted before though.

Any plans to do the black bit on the bottom of your front wings Stan?

I blow hot and cold on this. I know they should be done to finish off the line, but on the other hand I always think it looks a bit of an amateurish job even when done correctly.

Painting them was a bit of a cost cutting excercise I think. The first P6 to have blacked out sills, the NADA 3500S actually had little black aluminium caps on the bottom of the front wings. I guess they were too costly or too much of a rust trap for Rover to use them on the series 2s. It has to be done though imo.

sadly, a slight rubbing on the offside with the power on circling a roundabout

Hello Stan,

I am really amazed by that. Mine is certainly closer and it never rubs. Even when I was on my P plates over 25 years ago, and being a typical youth, if it was going to rub it would have rubbed them, of that you can be sure!

Are your rear suspension bushes all new? I wonder if there is some additional movement somewhere which is allowing this to happen?

On a happy note, Occie sure looks fabulous. Just one point though, and I hope you don't mind me saying, but I also feel that the section at the base of the front guards needs to be in black.

Ron.

I think the rear springs look a bit soft so it could be rolling more on roundabouts than yours Ron.

I reckon paint the sills and wing bottoms all black or all red ! As it is it looks like someone has just put a new wing on

Yep - she is a tad saggy. I've got the back end suspension & brakes refurb/rebuild down on the list as next winter's project. :)

In the meantime I've created a little more clearance on both sides...yet to road test though.

Yes...there aren't many options other than those two. Still undecided which one I'll go for though!

==============================

If I do paint the wing bottoms, I take it the cut line should be level with the lower edge of the front doors?

I think so Stan, that way the dark line will carry along the car when viewed from a distance. I don't think it's quite horizontal either if you follow the door edge.

Seeing that jack in your arch reminds me of exactly how I did it!

Just a thought, you could use some black vinyl on the bottom of your wings instead for a reversible effect. I reckon it would actually look neater than paint too. That way if you don't like it you can just peel them off with a heat gun.

If I ever get around to a full respray on Jinx, I'm thinking I'll weld up the jacking point holes too (seeing as they are neither use nor ornament) and colour code the sills to the body.

Thanks Paul, I'll have a dekko over the weekend.

Neat idea, Adam...might be worth thinking on.

I may have missed a post, but how's the job search going?

You didn't miss anything! It's going slowwwww... The kind of job I'm going for tend to be at least two interviews, with presentations to do and long lead times. I haven't had any success yet, I've got to the last stage a couple of times which is frustrating but have more lined up. Fingers crossed for one of them.

Quite prescient that Adam! That's how Rover did it on the 3500S NADA. Albeit they didn't have vinyl then so they used an extremely thin bit of aluninium alloy. <ust have made a lovely rust trap...
