Occie gets some new wheels!

I think there might actually be more Vitesse wheels on P6s now than there are on Vitesses!

I'd say you're right, P6s are a rare sight on the roads over here but nowhere near as rare as a Vitesse or even any SD1 :)

Yes those SD1s are certainly proving to be useful to us P6 owners! 8)

I think those wheels look well smart on your car Stan. There's definitely something in that "red car/vitesse wheels" combo. Those centre caps really complete the quality feel of the wheels too.

I do like Andy King's gold coloured wheels on his red car though. That contrast works particularly well.....IMHO :)

I'll be sticking with my Rostyles though

Look like Vitesse centres on S2 SD1 wheels  Didn't know you could do that :)

Not that I want to, just being an observant anorak

looks a little "busy" with all the colour differences in the rim, not sure it is the best of looks.

I think they are sd1 vandan plas wheels

They're not. They look like series 2 alloys, which have a rubber push-on shield centre cap

Stan, your 15" Vitesse rims look really nice after the refurbishment. Looking forward to a side view of Occie outside in the sunshine.
I have a couple of questions (this is probably going to make me look very dimwitted, but it won't be the first time). What's the difference between the original studs on a 3500 P6, and the studs you have fitted to fit the 15" wheels? How did you get the old studs out and then the new studs in? Did they have to be knocked out from the front (the wheel mounting face of the hub) towards the back of the hubs? Or are they threaded into the hubs?
My organ donor had 14" SD1 Vanden Plas alloys fitted, like the gold ones on Andy King's red car in this thread. I know it has different wheel studs to normal, what I would like to know is if they're the right studs to mount 15" Vitesse wheels?

Hi Al,

The P6 studs have a 7/16" UNF thread for the wheelnuts, whereas the SD1 studs are metric. Also, the Vitesse nuts locate the roadwheel differently to the P6, with a pilot diameter engaging within the wheel.

http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-CRC1995REMANKIT

The studs locate in the hub via straight splines and come out with a healthy clout, knocking the stud towards the inside of the car. The fronts came out fairly easy on my car but the rears needed a hell of a whack. :)

Then you just wind the SD1 stud into the hub with a wheelnut and suitable spacer. You need 20 front SD1 studs, as the rears are longer due to the drum brakes. Thankfully the SD1 studs have the same splines as the P6 ones!

So...after a week's delay due to another issue needing attention - before the March-end deadline  - I finally put these tyres on the tarmac.

First thing to say, how much difference an extra 20mm on the tyre width makes to the car's looks viewed from the front - much more purposeful. Second, I was amazed how much lighter the steering felt at low speed.

And third, sadly, a slight rubbing on the offside with the power on circling a roundabout . Some investigation needed! :)

Looks good, how about a full side view photo so we can see the full munificance of it all :D

Oh...go on then!

Silica tyres have a much lighter steering feel 8) not to mention improved grip (go figure) and also lower fuel consumption plus another great feature is that water is not a lubricant for silica wheareas it is for rubber compounds :D . Wherever possible I fit Silica tyres, after all it those last few inches in an collision that cause all the damage to your car (and bank account).

If it's only rubbing on the roundabouts you have nothing to worry about, a wee tap will do it... It does look lovely though, if a little familiar! :D

Any plans to do the black bit on the bottom of your front wings Stan?

I blow hot and cold on this. I know they should be done to finish off the line, but on the other hand I always think it looks a bit of an amateurish job even when done correctly.

I'll just keep tossing this coin.

Occie is looking terrific. Really first class, I tip my hat to you.
Have the outer sills painted in the same new red, it'll look great! I'm going to do the sills to match the body colour, I think it looks much nicer than black. Each to their own :)
