P5B Coupe

Off on Monday to view a Coupe, midnight blue and birch , off the road for some years but now back on it after some mechanical work and quite a lot of body/chrome/paint work . Any comments or advice welcome please ( I have read the standard advice on what to look out for )

Standard advice about the bodywork/rotspots is probably pretty comprehensive. You know all about the V8/BW35 from the forum already & interior issues would be pretty similar to P6 though a tad more expensive to put right I think.
Windscreens are much more complicated to change though so a good rubber is a definite bonus.

Apart from that I can't think of too much else to look for so good luck with it.

They rot from the inside out like most cars of the era, unfortunately most of the bad spots are well hidden, and will not be visible until trim / seats are removed.
I don't think the vendor will be too pleased if you start removing bits and bobs to have a look see, just look beyond the bling and buy with your head, take your time and stick your head in as many places as you can.
If it does not look quite right, it probably isn't, and if it has been properly renovated then the vendor should have the evidence to support this.
Good luck

A lot of rot in a P5 can not be seen until it breaks out and as said is internal to the paneling so very hard to impossible to discern in some areas, as has been said ask if the vendor has photographic evidence of work carried out.

Any vendor who is unhappy with you removing interior parts from a Rover to check on structural integrity either doesn't know the car's at all or has something to hide. And just because they are unhappy with you doing it shouldn't stop you from doing it if you value your wallet.
lf they simply won't let you then you make your own decision as to your next course of action.

If they wont let you look under the seats the price has to be that of one which has corrosion issues...

Removing items that are not bolted down to have a look under or behind should be acceptable.
If the seller is happy for you to unbolt or unscrew seats, trim, panels etc then fine,or they maybe happy to do it,but don't expect it.

Thanks you for the advice. The vendor is well known to me from Jaguar circles( this car was taken by him in PX for a V12 Etype ) , and I have bought a number of cars from him and have considerable confidence. However, as has been said, the more pics etc of the work done, the better, particularly in relation to the pillars, inner wings and abcd posts areas etc

This car is KFK724H, and turns out to have been owned by Jon Wadhams for the last 12 years, although he has made only minimal use of it - a few hundred miles in all that time. It is a smart looking car, and as far as I can tell the structure is sound ( I had front carpets and back seat cushions out and there was no sign of rot in the seat wells themselves , or at the floor /A post junctions , but it was difficult to see the D post interior structure although I could not feel anything amiss. The inner and outer sills were replaced some years ago, and the front and rear inner wings were repaired as was the boot floor, and all no looked in order although i am always wary of sealants ! Sadly, the sill trims were ( as too often ) missing but I suppose I should not attach too much importance to this since the sills have been replaced. There was a clear lip where the B post meets the new sills ( i.e. the B post bottom stood proud of the sill ) which I took to be correct - am I right in thinking that if there has been a sill bodge the sill overlies the B post bottom ?

All further advice gratefully received
