PAE .... Sleipnir???

Success!

So i can confirm that i wire from the back of the ignition warning lamp to D+ on the alternator does in fact do the job...

I'm going to colour the wires on this diagram in to match my car i think.

and just under 15v on the alternator output to boot :)

The previous alternator always had W ( tacho output ) wired to ignition, which was wrong but that'd be why the ignition lamp wouldnt work.

hmmm - i dont think it's charging. difficult to tell on my analogue meter but looks like it says 12v rather than 14 and the ignition light is on dimly ( but not as bright as when the engine isnt running - couldnt tell in daylight.) Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rich

and this morning the ignition light wasn't on. Did seem that the starter motor was slow at first. Going to check some earths tomorrow i think. Maybe add an extra earth lead. Any other bright ideas much appreciated before i do something i regret....

Thanks,

Rich

Hi Rich,

How soon after you have started the engine are you measuring the battery voltage? Take it for a 15 or 20 minute drive first, one where you are not sitting in traffic constantly, and then take some measurements.

Ron.

What is your engine idling at when you take the measurement? If it is too low, then the voltage will be less than the minimum 13 Volts required. Did you acertain as to whether or not the diameter of the alternator pulley was different?

Ron.

It seemed to produce constant volts even when revved.

I havent checked the pulley diameter. Will give it a shot. Hadnt thought of that at all!

Thanks :)

I've finally got 4 doors for sleipnir!

They're currently lunar grey, and were painted about 6 years ago and put in a garage and were never fitted to the car...

If anybody else needs panels let me know and i'll put you touch if the guy doesnt manage to sign up here.

He also has wolfraces and tyres... (They'd look awesome but i'd never square that!)

Looks like you got some nice virtually rot free doors Rich. You could always fit them and paint the rest of the car to match :) .

well strange you should say that. the guy did have a complete car of lunar grey panels all frshly painted and never fitted... However i couldnt change the colour of sleipnir. It just wouldnt be right!

They're ok, just not good enough to bother painting as they'll need touching up at least to fix the accident damage from february...
